6 Months After The Trial, Judge Releases Names Of Jurors Who Convicted Derek Chauvin

November 1, 2021
"MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The names of jurors in the Derek Chauvin murder trial have been released Monday after a petition by the media.
In a CNN exclusive interview, seven jury members said their guilty verdict in the death of George Floyd was based solely on the evidence.
Now, six months after convicted Chauvin, the names of all twelve jurors and the two alternates have been made public, along with their jury questionnaires."

Derek Chauvin Hires Lawyer For Appeal

"MINNEAPOLIS (AP)Derek Chauvin has hired an attorney to represent him as he appeals his murder conviction in the death of George Floyd, according to court documents made public Monday.
Attorney William Mohrman filed a document with the court Friday saying he would represent Chauvin in his appeal. Chauvin was convicted in April on state charges of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s 2020 death. He was sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison.
Chauvin filed documents last month saying he intends to appeal his conviction and sentence on 14 grounds, including that he believes his trial should have been moved from Hennepin County and that the jury should have been sequestered.
He asked for a public defender to represent him on appeal, but the state Supreme Court denied that request this month, saying a review of his assets and debts showed he was ineligible. When Chauvin made the request, he said he had no income aside from nominal prison wages and that the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association’s legal defense fund, which paid for his initial attorney, told him its obligation to fund his legal representation ended when he was convicted and sentenced."

As much as these ridiculous cases are, there is a silver lining. They really help separate discerning Christians from the undiscerning. Any Christian who is in lock step with mainstream outrage stories, whose twitter feed is barely distinguishable from that of a leftists, has become all too common. We had an SJW millennial in our group who was pushing BLM garbage. After calling it out, and asking some probing questions about that particular movement, this member eventually left in a huff. I guess in hindsight, I helped smoke out an SJW. Keeping an eye on their twitter feed, this verse came to life before my very eyes.
1 Tim 5:24 "The sins of some people are conspicuous, going before them to judgement, but the sins of others appear later."
Months later twitter posts showed this individual as sexually confused, racist (anti-White), and cussing up a storm in public promoting gay pride eventually surfaced. Another radical activist type also showed her own true colours and left.

I'm sure this sort of story is probably familiar to many here.

Im not sure which cases you consider ridiculous, as some major cases certainly were, but in this case, do you believe Chauvin was innocent, and should not of been found guilty?

I think excessive force was probably used, but drugs were the ultimate cause of death. In pre-social media times this would have been an unremarkable LOCAL news story. People are basically brainwashed into how to think and feel by mainstream media who intentionally blow things out of proportion and relentlessly do all they can to divide people.

I agree, I don't think he should have been found guilty of murder. He should definitely have been fired but if my memory serves me well, I think they still used that maneuver at that department.

George Floyd was high on drugs and was dying regardless of what Chauvin did.

Honestly? I do. I don't believe Chauvin killed him, Floyd was going through a severe overdose. He was dying long before Chauvin laid hands on him. There have been numerous videos and demonstrations showing how the knee to the base of the neck (there's even a camera angle showing that Chauvin's knee wasn't even actually on Floyd's neck) won't block air-flow.
But honestly, all the to and fro has been done to death. And I have read and studied everything till I was sick to my stomach. I don't believe Chauvin is truly guilty. I just don't. But it doesn't really matter what I believe. God knows exactly what happened, and hopefully, if Chauvin isn't a believer, God will reach him and touch him with His power and Grace.
God is the final answer to all of this. My prayers go out to all involved and their families.

Fmr. MPD Officer Derek Chauvin Pleads Guilty To Violating George Floyd’s Rights In Federal Case

"Chauvin also faced a separate federal indictment accusing him of holding a teenager down by the throat in 2017. As part of his plea Wednesday, that indictment will be dismissed, WCCO’s Esme Murphy reported.
Chauvin will also have to pay restitution. The amount has yet to be determined. He will never be able to work as a law enforcement officer again, according to the plea agreement. He’ll also need to disclose all of his assets."

Derek Chauvin, Ex-Wife Plead Not Guilty To Tax Evasion Charges

November 5, 2021 at 3:46 pm
"The nine felony tax evasion counts filed in July of 2020 allege that Derek and Kellie Chauvin underreported their joint income by $464,433 from 2014 through 2019, including more than $95,000 for his off-duty security work. Kellie Chauvin was a real estate agent and also operated a photography business. At the time, prosecutors said they owed $37,868 to the state, including unpaid taxes, interest and fees. Prosecutors have said the tax investigation began before Floyd’s death.
Kellie Chauvin filed for divorce shortly after Floyd’s death, and a judge approved the divorce last February under terms that were kept sealed. The judge rejected an initial proposed settlement that would have given Kellie Chauvin most of their property and money, which had fueled speculation that the Chauvins were trying to shield their assets."

Jury Seated In [Federal Civil Rights] Trial Of 3 Fmr. MPD Officers [other-than Derek Chauvin] Charged In George Floyd’s Death

"MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The jury was seated Thursday in the federal civil rights trial of three former Minneapolis police officers in the death of George Floyd.
While Derek Chauvin pleaded guilty last month in this case, Alexander Kueng, Tou Thao and Thomas Lane have all pleaded not guilty."

"According to reporters in court, the jury is made up of 10 women and eight men. Most appear to be white, although the court has yet to release demographic information about the jurors. Their jobs titles include software engineer, wind turbine supervisor, grocery store clerk, nurse practitioner, day care provider and food service worker. Some are retired.
An evidentiary hearing is now scheduled for this Friday at 10 a.m., and opening statements are set to start Monday at 10 a.m.
Under federal rules, trials are not televised. While Chauvin never testified in his trial, legal experts including Joe Tamburino believe the three defendants will testify."

The Feds are running rough-shod over our State :cry People here want the proceedings streamed and/or televised because of local interest, to ensure fairness, and to prevent more violence and property destruction :tappingfoot No matter what the outcome, if the proceedings aren't open to the public (aka SECRET), there will be questions, dissatisfaction, allegations of racism, allegations of cover-up, allegations of caving in to the mob/political correctness, and a much, much higher potential for violence :cry

Access Again An Issue At Federal Trial In George Floyd’s Killing

"ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A closed hearing in the federal trial of three former Minneapolis police officers in George Floyd’s killing was canceled Friday after prosecutors and the media objected, the second time in just days that access to the proceedings became an issue.
U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson scheduled the conference on the admissibility of some evidence that attorneys for Tou Thao, J. Kueng and Thomas Lane sought to block. After prosecutors and news media objected, Magnuson canceled the hearing and met with attorneys in chambers instead.
No details of the meeting were immediately released."

"Media groups earlier this week raised concerns about restrictions on journalists and spectators in the courtroom. Magnuson, citing the coronavirus pandemic, initially set aside just two seats for reporters and none for family members during jury selection, which was completed in one day. He raised that to four seats for reporters during jury selection — the same as planned for the trial phase — but rejected other media requests, including sharing of evidence exhibits.
Leita Walker, an attorney for the media groups, said she was “concerned that the court purported to cancel an evidentiary hearing but went forward with a meeting and we don’t know what happened at that meeting.”
The original hearing was set to deal with defense motions to exclude certain evidence, including still images from videos the day of Floyd’s death; side-by-side exhibits that will play two videos at once; and dispatch and 911 calls, according to a filing late Thursday from prosecutors objecting to Friday’s closure."

Rendering aid is already required by police policies. Duty to intervene will likely be the next ripple effect policy.

Testimony Continues, Closing Up 1st Week Of Ex-MPD Officers’ Federal Trial

"ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — The first week of the federal trial for three former Minneapolis police officers comes to a close Friday.
A number of witness have testified to what Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng did and did not do the day George Floyd was killed. We’ve also heard from other officials, like the doctor who confirmed Floyd’s death and the training officer.
Inspector Katie Blackwell, the former commander of training for the department, returned to the witness stand Friday, continuing to testify on the training the three former officers received on intervention and providing medical care."

Police Trainer, Doctor Who Tried To Resuscitate George Floyd Take The Stand In Trial Of 3 Former Officers

"In St. Paul’s federal courthouse on Thursday, Dr. Bradford Wankhede Langenfeld testified that the delay in getting Floyd aid contributed to his death. Langenfeld, who tried to resuscitate Floyd for nearly 30 minutes before pronouncing him dead at Hennepin Healthcare, said he tried to get Floyd’s heart beating again, but despite state-of-the-art care, Floyd never recovered.
Langenfeld testified that had CPR been given to Floyd earlier, his life could have been saved. “There is a limited window of time when you can act, and that window is very critical,” he said.
The doctor added that, in his opinion, Floyd did not die from the drug overdose, even though an autopsy revealed Floyd had fentanyl, methamphetamine and marijuana in his system. Langenfeld said that he believes mechanical asphyxiation, or a loss of oxygen, was the main factor. He also said that Floyd might have been experiencing excited delirium, a controversial diagnosis that is taught to first responders.
The defense teams from the three former officers have embraced the excited delirium diagnosis, saying that the officers were fearful of Floyd, because excited delirium can include supposed “super-human strength.”

"A Minneapolis police officer also took the stand Thursday. Inspector Katie Blackwell, the former commander of training for the department, said that officers are taught that they have a duty to provide medical aide, a duty to intervene if they see a fellow officer commit wrongdoing, and that arrests should involve the least amount of force necessary.
Blackwell testified that the duty to intervene was in the department’s policy book in May of 2020.
While all three of the officers on trial are charged with failing to provide medical aid to Floyd, Tou and Kueng are also charged with “willfully failing to intervene” against Chauvin.
In opening statements earlier this week, Thomas Plunkett, Kueng’s attorney, said that the “duty to intervene” was little more that a word on a PowerPoint training session at the time of Floyd’s death.
WCCO reviewed the current Minneapolis Police Department policy manual, and the duty to intervene section was last updated 10 days ago."

Medical Examiner Testifies He Wasn’t Pressured When Making George Floyd Autopsy Report

"ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The chief medical examiner who deemed George Floyd’s death a homicide testified Tuesday that nobody pressured him to include anything in his autopsy report, as defense attorneys at the trial of three former Minneapolis police officers charged with violating Floyd’s civil rights raised questions about how Floyd died."

"Dr. Andrew Baker, Hennepin County’s chief medical examiner, said Floyd died after police “subdual, restraint and neck compression” caused his heart and lungs to stop. He said heart disease and drug use were factors but not the “top line” causes. He said Floyd had an enlarged heart that needed more oxygen than normal, as well as narrowed arteries.
Thao’s attorney, Robert Paule, asked Tuesday whether Baker was pressured into listing “neck compression” as a factor in his autopsy report. Baker testified that he told prosecutors on the day of Floyd’s autopsy that there was no physical evidence of asphyxia, or insufficient oxygen. Prosecutors put that information in their initial complaint against Chauvin, and listed existing health conditions, police restraint and potential intoxicants as contributing factors.
Baker said his office received “hundreds” of calls, some harassing and threatening. Former Washington, D.C., medical examiner Dr. Roger Mitchell, who is an expert in in-custody deaths, also called Baker and was unhappy. Baker said the two talked about neck compression, and Mitchell also planned to publish a critical op-ed in The Washington Post. Baker said he considered Mitchell’s opinion and analysis before adding neck compression to his report."

Federal Trial In George Floyd’s Killing: Thomas Lane Takes Stand, Says He Asked Twice If Floyd Should Be Moved

"Lane said Floyd struggled with officers as they tried to put Floyd into a squad car while responding to a complaint that he had used a counterfeit $20 bill at a corner store. Lane said he called an ambulance because Floyd was bleeding.
Once officers had Floyd on the ground, Lane said, they considered using a hobble — a device used to restrain the legs that would have required that Floyd be put on his side so that he could breathe more easily. The hobble has straps that bind the ankles together, and can also attach to the subject’s waist.
Lane said Thao got the device, but then it was suggested that they not use it. Lane said Thao noted that if they used the device, they would have to call a supervisor to come to the scene. Also, the device would have to be removed for paramedics.
“It seemed kind of excessive because we had an ambulance coming,” Lane said.
Lane said he also suggested putting Floyd’s legs up, since he was kicking, but that “Officer Chauvin said ‘No, we’re good.'”
Lane said Floyd stopped resisting after about four minutes on the ground. He recalled asking if they should roll Floyd onto his side, and Chauvin said no. Lane said he was worried about “excited delirium,” a disputed condition that he said he understood to be kind of “adrenaline overdose.”"

"Prosecutors have argued that the officers violated their training by not rolling Floyd onto his side or giving him CPR, and that even bystanders could see that Floyd was in trouble. Defense attorneys have attacked the department’s training as inadequate and have highlighted a culture that they said emphasized deference to senior officers like Chauvin."
