Firstly, I believe in the pre-trib “rapture” of the church, however, I have a question, perhaps someone can shed some light on the matter…
1 Thessalonians 4:17 (NKJV)
Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
In this verse we can see Paul writing to the church at Thessalonica about being “caught up” together… which I assume to mean the rapture. Fine, no problem.
Later, Paul writes…
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 (NKJV)
Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,
Q1. Where he writes, ‘... our gathering together…’, is this referring also to the rapture or to the second coming of Christ, i.e. at Armageddon at the end of the 7 year tribulation period?
Q2. If the Scripture in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 does refer to the rapture, then why does Paul go on to say, ‘... that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition.’ The apostasy, or ‘falling away’, I understand.
However, if it is widely believed that the ‘son of perdition’ or the antichrist, will be revealed in the middle of the tribulation, is:
‘caught up’ (1 Thessalonians 4:17) the same as: ‘our gathering together’ (2 Thessalonians 2:1) ?
Thank you for taking time to read this.
