Not surprised, since the official public school curriculum includes instruction in the religious practices of Central/South American people, who practiced ritual child/baby sacrifice, etc. 
Next will be expansion of end-of-life statutes and medical quality of life basis for rationing/determining access to health care
Us old folks probably shouldn't go to California. If a baby, with his or her whole life ahead isn't treated as a person, how will we, with most of our lives behind us, be treated?
Especially if no one there to speak up for us/make decisions when we no longer can? Paperwork (i.e., Will to Live, etc.) can get "lost" so easily in today's medical and insurance bureaucracies
