Bible in Farsi Recommendation

I am looking into buying a Bible for a cashier at Walmart who is from Iran. I have been prying a little each time I check out in her line. She claims no religious affiliation but says she prays to God. She speaks Farsi. I've looked online for a Bible, but wondered if anyone knew of a good source.

I can recommend a website to help with understanding about several bad translation efforts that were produced by Wycliff. Google this: Missiology Georges Houssney (his first name is Georges, a different spelling!).

I think he also has a website, Engaging Islam.

Your question is very important! There are bad translations on the market that are aimed toward Muslims who find Jesus. Wycliff began producing Bibles that reduced Christ's role as the only begotten Son of God, as it offends Muslims. Avoid those, they may be published under YWAM, Frontiers, and SIL too. Those translations do more harm than good. (Mostly done in Arabic I think.)

Some who escaped Iran were not Muslim. Do you know if she was raised as a secular Muslim, or she may be Jewish? It's possible she was Eastern Orthodox. The fact that she prays to God could tell you if she will volunteer the name of the God she prays to.

Thank you, Hol! I hadn't even thought about the possibility of errors. So sad to hear that about Wycliffe. Very disappointing! I'll let you know what I find.

Thank you, Hol! The Iranian pastor invited us to his worship service. They have a translator. I haven't quite convinced my husband to attend the service.
Our prayers are with you. I believe God is allowing the world to come to us to hear the gospel. You might ask her, since she has no religious affiliation, if she knows who Jesus is. She must speak English very well if she lives in Texas working at your local wall-mart. You might want to give her an English bible...just my thoughts.
God bless you,
your brother in Christ,
Albert R.

Yesterday I got an email from Biblical Missiology that reminded me of your thread.

In this short clip Georges Houssney gives a brief overview of their work. From their website you can learn more about the spiritual need for good translations, and how most modern Arabic translations do far more harm to any trying to increase their faith in Jesus as they flee Mohammad's Koran.
