Bennett to announce forming change government on Sunday

Barring last-minute unforeseen circumstances, Yamina leader Naftali Bennett will announce in a meeting with his faction on Sunday that he has agreed to form a coalition government with Yesh Atid head Yair Lapid, sources in the faction who spoke to Bennett told The Jerusalem Post on Saturday night. Bennett informed Lapid of his decision on Friday. They agreed that Bennett would serve first as prime minister until September 2023, after which Lapid would take over until the term ends in November 2025. But sources in Yamina said there are still some disputes with Yesh Atid that remain unresolved.

Final coalition deals will be signed by Monday and submitted to the Knesset. The swearing-in ceremony could take place as early as Wednesday, but legally, once Lapid tells President Reuven Rivlin that he could form a government, he has a week to bring the government to a vote of confidence in the Knesset. MKs and other candidates in Yamina who oppose building a coalition that would replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be asked to resign by Monday in order to be replaced by a candidate who would vote in favor of the government, because the support of at least six of the seven MKs in Yamina is necessary for a majority.

Israeli opposition parties have moved closer towards forming a government that would end the era of Benjamin Netanyahu, the country's longest serving prime minister.
Centrist party leader Yair Lapid is reportedly close to reaching a coalition agreement with the ultra-nationalist leader Naftali Bennett.
Leaders from Mr Bennett's party spoke in favour of the deal on Sunday.
Mr Lapid, 57, has until Wednesday to form a new coalition government.
Israeli media reports suggest both sides have inched closer towards a deal that would see Mr Bennett, 49, serve as prime minister for two years before being replaced by Mr Lapid for the second half of the term.
Mr Bennett is due to deliver a statement on Sunday evening in which he is expected to formally declare his support for the agreement.

It'll be interesting to see what changes for Israel once Bibi is out of the political picture. He must have been a relatively good (anti-globalist) man since he is hated like Trump is hated.

I wonder if the U.S. contingent of Amr Hady and/or Antony Blinken visiting Israel and Gaza had anything to do with Naftali Bennett from the Yamina party, which is based on Nationalism and Conservatism and his rival, Lair Lapid who represents the Yesh Atid party, which is Liberal, to suddenly desire to work together and form a Govt to oust Netanyahu.

That's a conservative leader, right of Netanyahu teaming up with a liberal rival to get rid of Bibi. Definitely feels like some underhanded tactics and some agendas at play.

I was wondering the same thing. I also feel Netanyahu has a lot of enemies and this latest international response of stupidity that Israel shouldn't have been so brutally defensive in response to Hamas works heavily against him. I think many of us feel Netanyahu is going to be attacked through and well after being the leader of Israel from within his country and internationally; and threats of war crimes, etc. may stick and gather a huge momentum that makes him incapable of ever being involved in their politics again and possibly incapable of defending himself and surviving any trials that might happen.
