The Yukon Quest started today. It's a little tougher of a race than the Iditarod, and also not as well known. Some mushers will try to run both races the same year. https://yukonquest.com/

You guys must have really, really gotten a lot more snow than usual, since they had to go with "Plan B" :eek

What happened in Circle (other than wuhan virus) that race organizers say "out of respect for the people in Circle?"

It's a very small indigenous community who weren't prepared for the quest 550 so there was no time to bring in stuff to support a mess of people there... that's probably what it's about. We really haven't gotten more snow than usual but we got 3-4 feet of extremely heavy snow during a period slightly longer than a week. The interior is still digging out of that. Even though it measured 3-4 feet, weight-wise it was around double that in precipitation, and the interior isn't used to getting that much in such a short period of time. I don't think anything else happened to Circle specifically...

Glad it was just "normal" stuff instead of the ongoing tragedies that are so commonplace these days :smile

Watched Jeff King, lots of good folks racing, but Martin Buser has always been my favorite musher. DeeDee Jonrowe was also fun to watch.

DeeDee wrote a childs book that came with a CD. The subject was her "lead" cat. All of our kids enjoyed that book. I probably read it to the kids a couple of hundred times while they were growing up.

A local musher, Dan Kaduce, bought a used truck from me. His wife mushes too. Sometimes they enter one of the two big races.

Do you remember the name of the book? The only book I can find by DeeDee Jonrowe is Iditarod Dreams, and the only kid's cat mushing books I found are Danger: The Dog Yard Cat by Libby Riddles and Me-Now, which written by Leon Mensch.

Thanks.
