Archbishop of Canterbury Declares God “Gender Neutral”

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has said that God is “not male nor female,” after female bishops demanded the Church of England stop referring to God solely as “He.”

Professor of Christian history Diarmaid MacCulloch backed Archbishop Welby’s statement, telling The Times that the reason God has been perceived as male is due to “patriarchal assumptions” of early Christian societies of Greece and Rome.

“The world is now different,” Professor MacCulloch said, “and we have to show that our view of God is wider than that and not get stuck with archaic terms.”

There again, it might be because the Bible is very clear that God made man in HIS image!

The comments by England’s most senior bishop follow those of the first female bishop Right Reverand Rachel Treweek, bishop of Gloucester, and Rt Revd Dr Jo Bailey Wells, Bishop of Dorking, who said in September that referring to God as a man was a “growing problem” and said the Church should stop referring to the deity as solely male.

Treweek argued that the use of male language could be damaging to young girls and boys, and that gendered language would be insufficiently welcoming to non-Christians.

This is the same ‘church’ that recently announced its support for gender-bending indoctrination among kids.

In the U.S., the United Methodist Church voted down an amendment to its Book of Discipline in May that would have said God is not “male or female.”

But the U.S. Episcopal Church set up a committee in July to “provide a pathway” towards revising its Book of Common Prayer to include gender-neutral language.

Church leaders called for the revisions to correct the “overwhelming use of masculine language” which they believe to be a “barrier to evangelising young people,” according to Fox News.

“Will no-one rid us of these heretical priests?”

Oh dear! He obviously believes that the 'Lord's Prayer' was incorrectly scribed as to my knowledge the words are, 'Our Father'. Maybe God got that wrong and if he did then who knows what else in the Bible is a lie. It all starts with the Opening of doors though some doors are much bigger than others and this is one of tham!: may God forgive him for his weaknesses.

It's a good thing that the archbishop of Canterbury's opinion does not really matter!
Another fine example of government established religion gone wild.

If your bound by Anglicanism with ropes and chains in the basement of the cathedral, you might have a reason not to leave. Other than that, not so much.

Not at all surprised at this from Justin Wellby given his track record but it still makes me :furious. The trouble is he is who people in this country see as representing God on earth (blind fools) and so it's just a little more erosion of His Word. After all, they say, did God really say?

No, as DANLMP explained, the reason God has been perceived as male is because His Son, who is also God, is male.

The female bishops demanded? the church stop referring to God solely as "He". What pronoun did they want to be used, "It"?:doh

Last I checked the person who died on the cross for us is male.
So by definition at least one person of the Trinity is a Man.

Here is another case of man trying to impose his will on God.
That has never gone well.
Exactly as DanLMP said.
That Jesus is a man has never been questioned, the disciples wrote about Him as a man. Hanging on the cross stark naked would have proved that little fact. But oh my goodness, it just gets worse and worse and worse. I am so glad we will be out of here when it hits the fan.

Yes, you get a sence that everything is spinning wildly out of control, and daily it gets faster and faster.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5)

Being offended will not change the Bible or the historical facts.

That's right.:nod. One might as well be offended that the sun comes up every morning. :ohno

We need to stand on the truth of God's word and share it. :bible

Amen! It is hard not to get distracted by headlines akin to Satuday Night Live skits (of which I don't watch). But , I have to remind myself, stay focused on the Great Commission...share the Gospel.

Noah, despite what must have been shocking behavior around him, stayed focused, completed the ark and gathered the animals.

And boy, is it ever looking like the times of Noah!

While I do believe that God is above male and female, after all He created both man and woman in His own image, the Bible states very clearly that we must pray to our Heavenly Father. Also, Christ Himself is male, and the Holy Spirit is referred to as male too.
So when the genderfluid bishops etcetera want to rope God into their apostate teachings, they will pay a hefty price for their transgression.

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. (Matt. 12)
