We can learn things about God by looking at His creation

Explanation:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Romans 1:18-23, NKJV (emphasis mine)

Since God used Himself as the blueprint for His creation, we can learn things about God by learning things about His creation.

When you are reading books that are written by different authors you notice how those different authors will write their stories, compose their plots, reveal their characters, bring out drama and humor and include all the other writers’ tools that are used to create great stories. All of these different authors will use those writers’ tools in different ways. We see those differences in the authors when we read their works. Those differences are a result of the different personalities of the authors. Each author leaves an imprint of themselves on the books they write. In part, the authors personal history and personality is revealed in their books.

We, mankind, can be considered a book that God wrote. In us is the personality and character of God. By exploring some of the best qualities that exist in us we can learn more about those same qualities that exist in God.

We will tend to value those things that God values:

  • In knowing how much we value love and relationships; we know that God values love and relationships.
  • In knowing how much we value justice and truth; we know that God values justice and truth.
  • In knowing how much we value working cooperatively; we know how much God values working cooperatively.
  • In knowing how much we value helping other people; we know how much God values helping other people.

God always exemplifies the best of all of His character values. We can discover what character values God values most by looking inside of ourselves collectively to show us what character values God wants us to exemplify. Mankind is good at stating what our best qualities should be, we just aren’t very good at living our best qualities.

We need to discover what those best character values are in God so that we can best exemplify in us those same character values.
