An independence Day message to my brothers and sisters.

As a (legal) new American permanent resident, just 2 years and 3 months from being able to apply to become a citizen of this great nation, I want to wish all patriots a very happy Independence Day!

God created this nation to be a source of light in a dark world. He led a group of persecuted Christians to her shores to state His purpose, and claim it for Him. But times changed and the powers that be in Europe tried to corrupt and control the young nation. So God allowed circumstances to cause a greatly varied group of men to take action to make the United States of America independent of great Britain and all of the monarchies of the world. The price was high, but patriots paid the price with their blood.

Then times changed again, and the cancer of slavery threatened to tear the young nation apart. Freedom did not ring for a large portion of the population of America, so roughly 150 years ago God raised up a president and men of action to ensure that slavery would be driven out of the nation and America would truly be the land of the free. The cost was high, but the price was paid in the blood of America's patriots.

Now times have changed again. And those who respect neither God nor the purpose for which He made America great threaten to destroy what God has wrought. They desire to make America part of the move to godless, global totalitarianism that they believe will alleviate all human suffering. They think that their vision is better than God's. So today, God has raised all of us up and has given us the responsibility of being the salt and light in this nation's decaying midst. This time, however, our allegiance as patriots is not to a worldly nation, but to the vision that founded her -- the vision given by God that America be a light to the world and a place from which the gospel would go forth to all kindred, nations, tribes, and tongues.
There are still millions of souls to be saved in the United States, and hundreds of millions around the world. Let us scorn our own reputations and our own well-being with the same disdain with which the former patriots disdained their own. Let us give our all for God and His gospel ... until He calls us all home.

To quote from The Battle Hymn of the Republic, "As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free." Not free from slavery to the powers of this world but free from sin and its eternal penalty. Let us proclaim the grace offered to all through Christ Jesus.

Glory to God!!! May He continue to bless America until our course is run.
