An Important Message to Benjamin Netanyahu

Mr. Prime Minister,

I am writing on behalf of the almost two thousand evangelical Christians of Rapture Forums to congratulate you on your being named Prime Minister of Israel and to wish you every success as you take on this position in this most difficult of times.

As evangelical Christians we know that there is indeed only one G-d, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. When the Almighty Creator of the Universe called the gentile Abram out of Ur and made Covenant with him, He said that through his seed He would bless the nations of the earth. We believe that promise-as with all of G-d's promises-stands true. Christian scripture - which as you know was written entirely by Jewish believers two thousand years ago-warns that "in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, saying, 'Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.'" It then goes on to say "But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." (chapter 3, verses 4 and 8 of the second letter of ????? - known as Simon Peter in Greek). Indeed Moses wrote "For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past." (Tehillim 90:4)

Why are we raising this? Because much of the world today holds a very loose view of G-d, if they admit He exists at all. Yet our study-and that of most Christian scholars-of both old and new covenant scriptures clearly indicates to us that we are moving close to what the prophets referred to as "that day" - the long promised Day of the Lord. We believe that not only is Israel the "apple of G-d's eye" as scripture says (Deuteronomy 32:8; Zechariah 2:8), but that she is also G-d's timepiece. Throughout recorded history G-d's workings in His creation have been revealed through his dealings with His people Israel. Both old and new covenant scripture predicted that the Jews would be scattered across the face of the earth for generations, their lives a prey in the hands of the nations. It further predicted that in the last days the people would be gathered out of the nations into their original homeland that G-d had given them.

Indeed Yeshua predicted the destruction of Israel and her capital Jerusalem just prior to His crucifixion when he told his followers: "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city; because these are days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled. Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people; and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." (Luke 21:20-24)

As you know, this occurred in 70 AD when the Roman armies under Titus destroyed the city and the temple and scattered the Jews across the earth.

In the almost two thousand years since, the world and the unbelieving Gentiles (and most Jews) may have thought that Hashem was done with Israel. But true Christians-students of the Holy Scriptures-have known He was not. One of the Church fathers, the rabbi Saul of Tarsus (Paul in the Greek New Testament) wrote to believers in Rome, "I say then, has G-d rejected His people? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. Certainly G-d has not rejected His people whom He foreknew." (Romans 11:1-2) Rather it was necessary for the fulfillment of His plan that there would be a time when His salvation was offered to the Gentiles. But the time of the Gentiles would only be for a season, and then Israel would be restored.

Indeed, the great prophet Isaiah said when Israel was restored it would become a nation in one day, asking "Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Is a land born in one day? Is a nation brought forth at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children." (Isaiah 66:8)

As we all know, against all odds and although for generations upon generations it was thought to be impossible Israel did become a nation again - and in one day! - on May 14, 1948. Yeshua, whom we Christians believe to be Messiah, said that the generation that saw this and the Jews once again in control of Jerusalem would not pass away before He would come again as prophesied: not this time as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world, but as the conquering King who would bring all things under subjection.

Therefore it is with great interest that we welcomed news of your appointment as Prime Minister. We have been praying that Israel would have a strong leader in these times, a man who would have the vision, the wisdom and the courage of a Joshua, a Gideon, an Ezra and a Nehemiah. Like our fellow believer, the author Joel Rosenberg, we believe you are that man.

May the Almighty Creator guide you and strengthen your hand as He has placed you in this position, in His nation, at this most important time. Please know that millions of Christians are praying both for your nation - and for you. And above all things we pray always, as Scripture commands: "Sha'alu shalom Yerushalayim."

Sincerely,

Rapture Forums
