Advice requested, serious question about demonic power/activity

Reoccurring theme in this thread:

Possession? No.

Oppression? Yes.

satan and his minions can only do what they are allowed.

Sometimes, the Lord in His wisdom allows oppression to train us, to grow us, to purge us. And it is for His glory.

Often we allow oppression by disobedience which is rooted in faithlessness. We have not, because we ask not, or we ask amiss.

Scripture is the best medicine. Matthew's previous post is a great start. Get in the Word, and get the Word in you.

Another thing we do is wander into the enemy's camp or stronghold. We need to get out.
I have personally been places where I have become aware of occult happenings. I left as I was not sent there for battle, neither was I properly equipped.
If it is your mission, then prayer starts the day and does not stop.

satan is powerless in the hands of Jesus.
We do need to ask ourselves: Are we trying to do His work when we should be putting things in His hands?
Excellent post, brother.

I really mean no offense but I humbly must confess that there is no need to be going around "binding" evil spirits, doing ritualistic things, etc. (spiritual warfare 'ministry' talk)... Evil is free to roam during this age. It is up to us to stand firm in the faith (shield) and speak the Word of God which is the sword of the Spirit (this is our offense). It is unbelievably powerful! Read those psalms out loud and you will see. Even the devil himself can't stand against the Word of God. It is pretty awesome to see it work. Try it. You will be blessed and you will never fear evil, evil may in fact begin to fear your use of the weapon that you have been given.

It is quick, powerful, and sharp. It pierces and divides souls and spirits, yet discerns the thoughts, intents, and hearts of men.

12 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. - Heb 4:12 KJV
I love your knowledge Matthew! You are 200% right about how powerful the Word of the Lord is.

No offense was taken. I value and welcome other's opinions for I do not know everything! LOL! I don't even know what
"ministry" talk is. I do not believe in ritualistic things. When you use the Word of the Lord against satan, you are "binding", "prohibiting", "keeping" him from operating against you. (attacking you) That is spiritual warfare. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, spiritual wickedness in high places. " Eph. 6:12

Matthew 16:19 and Matthew 18:18 says that what you bind on earth is bound in heaven. What you loose on earth is loosed in heaven.

I'm so glad to see there are so many wonderful ways we can be protected from the "wiles of the devil". And yes, the Psalms are included in my morning prayers. (And all day long! :))

Thank you for all the information!

"Binding Satan" is unscriptural, and we are not told to speak to Satan. He is the god of this world and is our enemy. If he could be bound, all the verses below would make no sense and be irrelevant. He will not be bound until the millenial kingdom. Here is how we are to deal with Satan:

Ephesians 6:10-18 - Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm, then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions.

James 4:7 - Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

1 Peter 5:8 - Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

John 4:4 - You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Revelation 20:1-2 - I saw an angel coming down out of heaven...he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.

You are misinterpreting the word binding. It doesn't mean to bound him. Of course we can't bound him, only God can. If we didn't have authority through Jesus to be protected against his attacks, why would the Word say to put on the whole armor of God?

Perhaps there is a disconnect in this thread because I am full agreement with all scripture given. If one of the devil's minions attacks you or your family, aren't we all in agreement that we have the Word to fight against him? Is that not what keeps him from destroying us or our families?

Perhaps the thinking is that God does all of our battles. I agree. And although He doesn't need our help, he still expects us to "stand" against the devil.

Great conversation! :)

Matthew6:33

Withstand in the evil day. Eph 6:13
I only said something because I got caught up in all that deliverance ministry nonsense for a time. It is similar to the word of faith stuff (Ken Hagin, Copeland, etc.). It becomes very legalistic and ritualistic. You spend more time focused on saying the right prayer or binding this spirit or that you really lose focus. Of coarse this is the internet and I really can't tell how you meant what you said so take my words with a grain of salt if I misunderstood. Just trying to clarify. God bless.

Oh, I so agree with you!

I have never been able to pray "elegantly" myself but God knows my heart and shortcomings and that my prayers are sincere.

I see the negative connotation when you mention Copeland. I never watched him but did come across him on the tv through the years when I was younger and he would do that stuff. Hey, to each his own, I always say. LOL! That may be why others are chastising me concerning my choice of words.

I believe we are in agreement. You say potato and I say potatoe. Wink, wink! LOL!

I have never understood those verses. Does this apply to all Christians or only His apostles?

Binding Satan" is unscriptural, and we are not told to speak to Satan.
This is my understanding also. If it were possible to bind Satan, then why are he and the demons still on earth?

I have never been taught to fight Satan with anything but His Word and the full armor.

Agreed. Bind means to prohibit, to keep from, to protect. We do that with God's word. We are in this world but not of this world. Satan is the prince of this world. That is why he is able to roam but soon he won't be. Praise the Lord! We belong to Him! :)
