This is not satire, it's true.

Pope Francis extends Catholic priests' right to forgive abortion
(CNN)Pope Francis has extended indefinitely the power of Catholic priests to forgive abortions, making the announcement in an apostolic letter released Monday.

It continues a special dispensation granted last year for the duration of the Year of Mercy -- which finished Sunday -- which gave all priests, rather than just bishops, the power to absolve the sin of abortion.
The announcement reiterates that the Church's stance on abortion has not changed -- it is still viewed as a "grave sin." But it makes it easier for women who have had abortions to be absolved for their actions, and rejoin the Church.
"I wish to restate as firmly as I can that abortion is a grave sin, since it puts an end to an innocent life," the Pope's letter states.
"In the same way, however, I can and must state that there is no sin that God's mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart seeking to be reconciled with the Father."
The letter continues: "May every priest, therefore, be a guide, support and comfort to penitents on this journey of special reconciliation.
"I henceforth grant to all priests, in virtue of their ministry, the faculty to absolve those who have committed the sin of procured abortion."

    'Moral evil'
The Catholic Church has long held that abortion is a grave "moral evil," with the Church's strong position on the issue driving many Catholic pro-life groups.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that every human life "from the moment of conception until death is sacred" -- and that any Catholic who procures an abortion incurs automatic excommunication, a penalty that often only a bishop can lift.

How Pope Francis is shaking up the Vatican

Pope Saint John Paul II, whose papacy ran from 1978 to 2005, had a hardline view on abortion, describing it as "murder."
But Pope Francis announced a shift last year when he said that priests around the world would be authorized to forgive the "sin of abortion" for the duration of the Church's Year of Mercy, which ran from December 8, 2015 to November 20, 2016.
The Year of Mercy is a longstanding Catholic tradition during which believers may receive special indulgences for their sins.
READ MORE: Pope Francis says all priests can forgive women who've had abortions
"The forgiveness of God cannot be denied to one who has repented," he said at the time, expressing sympathy for women who had been through the "agonizing and painful" decision to terminate their pregnancy.
In some regions, such as in the US and Britain, priests have been delegated the power to forgive abortion, but in most parts of the world only bishops have that authority.
Vatican officials last year described the temporary extension of these powers to priests as "a widening of the church's mercy" -- and indicated that it was possible they could be extended beyond the Year of Mercy, as has proved the case.
Priest: 'Another gesture of mercy and welcome'
The Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit priest and editor-at-large at America magazine in New York, described Pope Francis' announcement as "a significant one."
Before the Year of Mercy, in dioceses in many parts of the world, special permission from a bishop was required to absolve the sin of abortion, he said.
"In the Year of Mercy, Pope Francis extended that permission to all priests for a year. Today he extended it indefinitely," he said.
"It's another gesture of mercy and welcome from a Pope whose hallmarks are mercy and welcome."

They need to get this straight. They do not have the power to forgive sins. There is 1 mediator between God and man. Only Jesus did this paid our sin debt in full on the cross! There is one unforgivable sin which is rejecting :fish as Savior!

But as we all know a Catholic priest (or anyone else for that matter) can not forgive anything.
God forgives when we accept the sacrifice of Christ as payment for our sins.

Jesus Himself almost got stoned a couple of times for forgiving sins since only God can forgive sins.
Is the Catholic Church saying their priests are God?

Another example of how far off Catholicism is.

Everlasting Life Through Faith in Jesus

Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.

    Matt 23:9

Jesus Christ provided direct access for all people to go directly to The Father in heaven to seek His forgiveness for sins. Repentance for sins and faith in Christ opens that door as scripture clearly states. Therefor one may directly pray to the Father in Heaven for mercy and forgiveness in Jesus Christ from the privacy of their own home.

    A New and Living Way
19 Therefore, believers, since we have confidence and full freedom to enter the Holy Place [the place where God dwells] by [means of] the blood of Jesus, 20 by this new and living way which He initiated and opened for us through the veil [as in the Holy of Holies], that is, through His flesh, 21 and since we have a great andwonderful Priest [Who rules] over the house of God, 22 let us approach [God] with a true and sincere heart in unqualified assurance of faith, having had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable andtrustworthy and faithful [to His word] Hebrews 10:19-23

Sadly, that is how the cult of Rome thinks. We need to pray for them that they come out of spiritual and physical bondage of Rome. :pray

I think that was Jesus talking to the 12 disciples. Or at least to real believers of the true Gospel. Not fallen men of the cult of Rome. The RCC doesn’t save. It is powerless. Only Jesus has the power to save us and pay the sin debt we could never pay. Popes, priests, Mary, etc can’t save or forgive sins. They are sinners like everyone else. While Mary was blessed among women, she still needed a savior. She found it in Jesus. Praying people come to recognize the RCC as the cult that it is. :pray

Well said Chris. It is the true gospel of Christ that saves and when a person receives the message of grace by faith, their sins are forgiven. Conversely, if the true gospel is rejected by someone, their sins are retained. Rome offers up a counterfeit gospel that is incapable of saving, complete with a false “holy father”, a false Christ in their Eucharist, a false Mary that they worship, a false place of purging one's sins in a ficticious place called Purgatory, and ultimately no assurance of salvation. It is utterly false and a person trusting in their system for redemption, their sins will be retained.

Amen bro! Their system is insidious. Ultimately, there will be nothing worse than being duped into a system all one's life, thinking that they are on their way to Heaven, only to hear those dreadful words “Depart from Me, I never knew you”.

You don't have to tell us what Catholics believe. Many people here are ex-catholics and know firsthand what is taught in the RCC. And yes, catholics do believe Mary can save, that is why she is referred to as a co-redeemer in the RCC catechism. It is nothing but a cult of death that leads people on the wide path of destruction. :ohno People need to come out of the RCC, lest they partake her plagues that are promised her in Revelation. :eek

We don't support cults. Catholics, Mormons, JW, etc. are all cults. They do not teach the real Gospel or the truth. That is why they are in the false religions and cults category on the main site. The teach a different Jesus. The Bible says those who teach a different Gospel are accursed. :sad

She's not a co-redeemer in any way. There's only one redeemer and that is Jesus. The Bible says there is no name under Heaven in which to be saved except by Jesus. Relying on Mary, priests, popes, the RCC, etc. is a sure expressway to Hell. And the truth is the RCC is leading people by the millions down the wide path of destruction. :ohno We don't want people to go to Hell, which is why we tell the truth and not sugarcoat it.

I'd take the one by the 16th century King who wanted a divorce as opposed to the one that is invented by popes that killed each other, dug each other up from their graves and put each other on trial because they hated each other so much, or that promote pedophiles in pretend churches of the modern day or the one invented by people who think they are eating and drinking the blood of Christ. :doh :ohno Praying for you. :pray Get saved today while there is still time. Come out of the harlot church lest you partake her plagues. :sad

Palestinians Jew? You know there is no such thing as "palestine" don't you? Did you take the "palestine" test?

God is more than capable of keeping his Word to the TRUE church. He doesn't give His Word to false prophets and the cults who teach a different Gospel. A gospel that does not save. Only Jesus saves.
