George Washington was the commander of the army of the American colonies and later the nations first President for those not familiar with American history.

Some say this story is a fabrication; I don’t know.

According to the story Congress couldn’t get the funds passed to pay Washington’s officers. This made his officer’s very disgruntled; they had endured so much for the country and they had had enough.

So there was a meeting planned, Washington and his officers.

So when it was Washington’s time to address his men, he reached for his spectacles (glasses) to read his speech and he said, Not only have I gone gray in your service, I find myself going blind.

According to the story (myth or fact) there was not a dry eye in the room. So; the men was content and they didn’t push Washington to become king and take their pay by force.
