A land restored from war?

Hello, everyone. Ezekiel 38:8 describes the land as having been restored from war. But which war? Is it WWII? Or perhaps another war in the future the outcome of which would cause Israel to feel they have entered a period of peace and safety?

Also, the same verse says that people there now dwell securely. It explicitly says "all of them". At the moment, many Jews are still living outside of Israel. It appears this war occurs prior to an event that would cause ALL Jews to return to their homeland. Thoughts?

"After many days you will be mustered. In the latter years you will go against the land that is restored from war, the land whose people were gathered from many peoples upon the mountains of Israel, which had been a continual waste. Its people were brought out from the peoples and now dwell securely, all of them." (Ezekiel 38:8)

I take the "all" to refer to the people who are in Israel (all of them dwell securely), not "all" to to be all who used to be in other nations are now in Israel. Grammatically, your description of something is always supposed to describe the nearest "thing", not jump farther back in a sentence. In other words, the nearest subject is the regathered, not the world wide group of Jews from whom the gathering takes place... did that make sense?

The Babylon dispersion is a good example of the Jews returning to Isreal - lots went back, but not all.

To clarify the above, if you want it to read that all the Jews are regathered, the sentence would have to be reordered thusly: Its people were brought out, all of them, from the peoples and now dwell securely.

Since the sentence isn't written that way, it cannot mean that all the Jews are regathered. Instead, those who do end up in Israel dwell securely.

Granted, I am analyzing the English. If someone knows the Hebrew grammar better, feel free to jump in.

That's more like it. All meaning all who are in Israel at that time. Thanks for sharing your wisdom on this.
