1,000 Americans move to Florida EVERY DAY as families abandon northern cities in NY, NJ and CT

Umbrella Girl

Now we see through a glass, darkly; (1 Cor 13:12)
I’m from Connecticut, and my husband wants to move south after retirement (if Jesus doesn’t take us before then)! But it makes me very sad, because this is my home, and I really don’t want to leave it! But because of the high taxes and the high percentage of libs here, I understand why he wants to move...:frown

No offense to anyone who is from Florida, but I dislike Florida, and would NEVER want to live there. I absolutely cannot stand the relentless high heat and humidity, and the lack of four seasons. I so enjoy the cool, crisp Autumn weather and the lovely foliage of New England, and I would miss it terribly...:frown

So perhaps a move to North or even South Carolina, but that is the absolute furthest south I’d be willing to move because of the oppressive heat and humidity any further south than that, especially Florida...:confused

However, I do especially love southern people, though...:inlove

There's some areas of Georgia that are more mild humidity-wise than a lot of the south. I've been pleasantly surprised by the summer climate in the area of Augusta. Given its location I would have expected it to be more humid than what I experienced. Then there's areas to the northwest of Augusta that are milder and nicer as well. I've visited Augusta two summer in a row, trying to be there when the climate would be at or close to its worst. Georgia is one of the more tax friendly states. I like North Carolina but it isn't all that tax friendly, though it might be if compared to Connecticut...

should the Lord tarry.....this is a sensitive subject in my home.

Every year before Covid ...we have gone on family vacation to Destin,FL cause my family loves it there. And EVERY year my wife lobbies to move there or at least try and plan to retire there.

Well after last year's vacations, I had finally had it, and finally spoke up, "Babe, you realize by the time we could afford to move or retire there, you won't want to be seen on a beach anymore right?"

I had to sleep on the couch for a week I think, so this whole thread hits a nerve lol

Y’all, move to south central KY (Franklin/Bowling Green/Scottsville/Glasgow, etc). We are only an hour from Nashville, have two hospitals in Bowling Green and one in Glasgow. Super affordable with low cost living, affordable housing, active population with lots of parks, National Park nearby, lakes etc. It’s a bit southern with Midwest transplants due to GM plant here, home of the corvette. We love it!!! The beautiful rolling countryside, low taxes, friendly people and mild climate are all a winning combo!
I also just happen to be a realtor here. And interestingly enough, majority of the people I’ve talked with who are moving here from up north have stated that the cold weather and liberal policies are what make their decision to move south. Lot of them decide on the area after driving through. They just fall in love with it.
Would you kindly fill me in on why Monticello is so cheap? Even cheaper than surrounding towns. My husband keeps showing me houses.....but there must be something wrong there? Saw a video and the lake is beautiful but the town itself is pretty sad looking....like it died some time back....maybe that's why. No jobs at all.

I also noticed that Idaho has been getting some new citizens as of late. Many of them are from California.

My best friend is a former Army doc who retired from there a few years ago and now works at the V.A. Her husband has bee nagging her to retire completely, because he is sick of Inslee and liberal Washington politics and wants to move to Idaho. In fact, they are flying over there this weekend to look at property. At least Idaho would get 2 conservatives.

Monticello is a great place to live, but for a decent paying job you will need to travel depending on what kind of work you are looking for, alot around here is retail, sawmills, and building houseboats. Crafts are very popular also, woodworking, quiltmaking. They have several places to sell your crafts in all of the peddler malls, open air flea markets, and one of the biggest flea market tours in the country. I believe it goes from Michigan to Florida but I forget, it normally runs in August.

The lake is great during weekdays, but gets a lot of traffic on the weekends with the fishing tournaments, and people from Indiana, and Ohio vacationing. Hope this helps some.
