Prayer…May NOT Be, What You Think It Is!

Prayer…May NOT Be, What You Think It Is!
By Don Twobears

Here is a tidbit of information, that will ultimately change the lives of those that learn this. Please know this is not me but the Lord that is saying so, having said that, it MUST be TRUTH and it MUST be necessary. When we were little we learned to pray like this; “Dear Jesus, thank you for this day and thank you for the food we ate and please watch over us as we lay down to sleep. In Jesus name, Amen.” We were then told by our Mom and Dad, “That was just Lovely.” As we grew older, say in our late teens and twenties, there may have been fewer of these prayers, because the world had integrated itself into our world. I take that back, we allowed the world to stick it’s collective nose into our business and we stumbled. It hurts when you fall down, doesn’t it?! Ever wonder why?? If not, maybe you should.

Let’s look at Matthew 6 in the Bible for a moment, this is an area that I truly believe has more information, for us to live by, than any other area. There are the first two examples, that I wish to bring out and show you; Pay attention to the WORDS and then recollect the meanings;

Matthew 6:1-4″Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth. That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.”

Matthew 6:5-8 “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.”

The Lord’s Prayer; “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy Will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

In the first example, we are talking about the giving to the Lord and we need to take special note of strings like; ” They have their reward” and then take special note, as to how the Lord wishes to bless us and when. Please note, it has nothing to do with how YOU are praised, but it is everything about Praising the Lord! I must then say, “It’s all about me!!” NO LONGER EXISTS!! This is one of the reasons I keep going back to what John the Baptist stated, “HE must increase and I must decrease”, no greater words have ever been spoken, in reference, as to how we must be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Lord MUST shine through us, to the point we are no longer seen at all, only Christ! YOU and I are the created, Jesus Christ (God) is the Creator, there is only room for one Supreme Being and that spot is already taken by Jesus Christ (God). That should easily nail down…your and my position on anything, we ain’t squat, if we do NOT have Jesus Christ!

So the first was about the giving of Alms, our giving to the Lord and then the second was about Praying, the where, when, how. Have you noticed that the both of them is about YOU coming to Jesus Christ…in all humility?? In other words, when you step up to the plate, there is NO fanfare at all…for YOU. Have you figured it out, that thus far, we are coming into the presence of God Almighty…THE CREATOR of all things? Does it dawn on you, that you are standing there alone? Just you yourself and you…no one else?!

There is one thing, that sticks in my craw like a fish hook…Praying! Seems simple enough, open your mouth and say what is most important to you…right?! WRONG in so many different levels, it’s crazy just thinking on that! Therefore, what is Praying and what all is so important about it? Let’s take a very close and personal look at this!

The first thing we need to be very aware of is this, God already knows what you are going to Pray for! HE already knows what your needs are, every single one of them. HE Knows the “Intent of your Heart” as you begin to Pray, thus…you can’t be sneaky about anything!! What am I saying then?? BE REVERENT…BE HUMBLE…you are speaking with GOD ALMIGHTY! Every single being in Heaven knows what is going on or maybe you have forgotten that “Heaven Rejoices when any Person comes to Christ”! We have spoken, that God as the Father is a JUST God and a RIGHTEOUS God…it would then be important for you to KNOW where you are and to whom you are about to speak to or ask something of, right?!

Matthew 6:7-8 “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.”

It must be abundantly clear….the “LOST” have only one prayer that will be heard of the Lord God Almighty…the Prayer they say as they Surrender to Jesus Christ and ask HIM to save them. Note here too, the LOST become a Child of God AFTER they are saved and then every Prayer is heard. Now getting an ANSWER to ones Prayer is a whole different story and that will be in another article. So as we look at this, first we must be saved to Jesus Christ, Who is GOD. IF we are indeed saved to Jesus Christ then our Prayers will be heard. BE SPECIFIC…BE SHORT…TO THE POINT…remember GOD already knows why your coming before HIM. As your Father in Heaven, HE wants to interact with you, like a good Father would.

Finish your every Prayer with “In the name of Jesus Christ, I ask Father” and then the AMEN!

There is NO greater action, than to be standing and talking before the CREATOR of everything and then to know…HE IS LISTENING TO YOU!! and in this same breathe, there are many, far too many that Blaspheme the Lord their God with Prayers of little consequence, of little meaning, something like, “Now I lay me down to sleep”! When Jesus Christ…Who is God Almighty…hears of such things…HE does indeed get angry! NOT a good thing for you to do! I would have to ask, do you understand the idea of REVERENCE AND SUPPLICATION?

The Last thing we need to speak about when it comes to Praying and Dealing personally with Jesus Christ…is our SIN. All of us SIN, you and me alike, because we are humans, we are flawed, therefore we have SIN all the time and we must be aware of unresolved SIN. The first Prayer should always be, forgiveness of SIN and we must present that SIN by name and that it belongs to us. We must be constantly bathing in the Blood of Jesus Christ, so to speak. NOT in the idea of Christ being constantly on the Cross and Bleeding, but in like manner, as when we first Came to Jesus and asked for HIS forgiveness of our SIN. Please…lets be very, very, clear on this point, Christ died ONCE and that was sufficient for all!

Having been forgiven our SIN, we can then come to our Father and bury our faces in HIS chest and cry our needs to HIM, knowing that HE will answer our Prayers according to HIS Perfect WILL! Knowing HE Loves you and I and will comfort us in our time of need.

And “lo I am with you always, even to the end of time”!!!
