What is Truth?
By Dennis Huebshman
John 18: 37-38: Therefore, Pilate said to Him,” So you are a king?” Jesus Answered, “You say correctly that I am a King. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice. (38) Pilate said to Him, “What is Truth?”.
And now for a Truth that I must tell you, I’m a Thief. Everything I have told you and am about to tell you is not an original idea of mine. I “stole” them from the Bible! Yup, and from many many other pastors through time that have passed on God’s word. I confess, but do not repent of this, as it is part of my following the Great Commission. As a follow-up, anyone who wishes to use any information I have passed on is welcome to do so. We don’t “own” God’s word – it is given to us to pass on.
God cannot lie as is told to us in Hebrews 6:18 and Titus 1:2.
John 8:32: You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.
Jesus was trying to tell us we are full of sin and are in bondage to it. The Pharisees disputed this and said they were free men and not in bondage. Jesus further told them that If the Son will set you free, you shall be free indeed.
Being trapped in their own version of what religion should be, they could not see that they could ever be free from the burden of sin without the proper sacrifice. They didn’t know the perfect sacrifice was addressing them and giving them a chance to accept Him.
1 John 1:8-10 says If we say we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
Galatians 1:9 says “As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed”
Speaking of deceit, anytime there is mention of the prince of darkness, ruler of this world and other terms to define Satan, there is always mention of his deceiving anyone he comes in contact with. He influenced many people, but some of them repented and came back to God in the end. Sampson was one example; David was deceived when he lusted after Bathsheba; Peter when he denied Christ; and Paul before his conversion just to name a few. The most notorious that did not repent was Judas. Had Judas repented and asked for forgiveness, Jesus would’ve done so just as He forgave those who were crucifying Him.
Where God is All Truth, Satan is the master of all lies. Some of his most famous are:
You aren’t good enough. While this is true if we rely on our own resources, It is a total falsehood if we have Jesus in our hearts. He Died For Our Sins! Try to go it without Jesus, and Satan wins this one.
You have all the time later to accept Christ. We are not guaranteed another minute, much less all the time later. Once you’ve taken your last breath on this earth, your eternity is set. You can’t accept Jesus AFTER you have died.
Does God Really Say…. This one started in the Garden of Eden, and is still being used today. There are many many so-called preachers giving what they say is God’s word. Trouble is it’s their words that they use to twist the actual word of God. Anyone can take a word or verse from the Bible and turn it to fit their needs. This is a popular tool of the Prosperity Preachers. The Mormons also use the Holy Bible to give you “proof” of their beliefs. Only trouble is they take one verse totally out of context and try to convince you they are right. It pays to check out what any preacher – INCLUDING ME – tells you by going to the word yourself. I listened to people about what the Bible supposedly said until I read it for myself at about the age or 41. It took several readings of several translations, but I finally figured out It’s God’s Way, not mine that is going to insure my Salvation.
It’s Ok to accept God, but you really don’t need Jesus. Satan knows if you accept Jesus, he’s lost you. In Islam today, they teach that Jesus was a prophet that lived and died, and will be resurrected when their Mahdi returns, and Jesus will give allegiance to the Mahdi and be his servant. Allah is one of about 360 gods that the Muslims worshiped at the time of Mohammad. He is the “moon god” and that’s why their crest has a quarter moon on it.
This can be refuted with one verse: John 14:6: Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by me. (I have chosen this as my life verse)
Other verses are Romans 5:8: in that God demonstrates His love toward us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
How about Acts 4:12 – And there is salvation in no one else for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.
Don’t forget Romans 14:11 – For it is written As I live says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me and every tongue shall give praise to God.
Here is one of the Greatest Truths of all: Romans 10:8-13 says, “(8) But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart, (9) because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, AND believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (10) For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. (11) For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame.” (Isaiah 28 and 49) (12) For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing His riches on all who call on Him. (13) For Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord WILL be saved! (Also Acts 2:21 and Joel 2:32)
God Himself authored the Bible through 40 inspired men. The writing of this history spans about 4-5 thousand years, yet is just as prevalent today as it was then. Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:16 that all the words of scripture are inspired by God. That’s why I have no problem believing what I read in His love letter.
There are anti-Christs among us today as there were in the days of the apostles. Biggest difference is the one that will arise shortly will be the worst of them all. He will actually be indwelt with Satan – probably at the mid-point of the tribulation – and will have the entire wrath of God brought on this earth as told of in Revelation.
I need to point out something here. There are ministers today that believe Revelation is just a book of Fairy Tales or just symbolism. They really shouldn’t be in the pulpit.
Do you honestly believe God would have 65 Inspired books written for our instruction, and then end it all with a book of myths and untruths? Problem with many people is they read John’s descriptions and say such creatures and events cannot exist. My point is, how could he relate what he saw to the people of their day when he looked ahead to the 21st century? How do you explain a Tank or Helicopter or nuclear weapon to people of the 1st century? I believe he did a fantastic job and used illustrations we can relate to today.
So, if all the prophesies of the Bible have come true except for what will take place in the tribulation, what makes us think God will not keep His word about keeping His people from the wrath? There is no definite time for the Rapture to take place, but Jesus said we should know the season. Jesus is the only way you can be positively certain you will escape the wrath and be with Him through all eternity. If one waits until the rapture has taken place, there may not be another chance to accept him.
Looking at all the world events today, and seeing the Bible in action, we can definitely say we are “in the Season”. The Harvest (Rapture) could be any day, any hour, any minute. Can you define “Twinkling of an eye” (1 Corinthians 15:52)? It’s faster than fast and that’s the time frame for Jesus gathering the dead believers in Christ followed by taking up all living believers. That’s why I am so adamant about asking you to accept Jesus RIGHT NOW if you already haven’t. After the Rapture occurs, people will still be saved, but under some terrible circumstances.
It’s free for the asking. Time is getting short, and that’s The Truth!
