Welcome To Laodicea
By Dennis Huebshman
With the exception of the churches of Philadelphia and Smyrna who received good remarks, and were challenged to persevere, the other five all had something they needed to change. (Revelation 2-3) Ephesus had turned away from the Love of Jesus; Pergamum was labeled as “satanic” and had false teachers; Thyatira had a false prophetess; Sardis was dead in their faith and were warned to return to God, but all of them still contained a seed of true worship. (any emphasis mine)
The worst of the worst was Laodicea. They were called “lukewarm” and “insipid to God” – tasteless, bland, unappealing and so on. Jesus literally said this church made Him ill. The rest appeared to have potential to turn around and be productive, but the Laodiceans figured they were prosperous and didn’t seem to see a need to care for their eternal souls.
Some traits of all the churches can be found today, but the Laodicean way seems to be the one gaining more ground daily. There are people who are “inspired” to attend church services, but not for the right reasons. The trend to go for “stage productions” meant to entertain, but not educate, is spreading throughout the evangelical arenas. Rock-type music; seven-eleven songs with seven words repeated eleven times but little or no biblical value; and even “Christian Rap” is what’s drawing the congregations to attend. It’s all about an “up-beat” sensation without any real biblical substance. Anything to give an emotional “high” without any messages that would give a guilt feeling.
The standards such as “Rock of Ages”; “The Love Of God”; “My Faith Looks Up To Thee”; “Trust And Obey” are gone. There are a few true bible-based churches still around, but they are rapidly losing ground to the “modern” services.
John said there would be false prophets and antichrists in the latter days (1 John 2:18-26), and with many other warnings from numerous bible prophets about the future time that we’re currently living in, they’re all here and totally in the open. Just a decade or so ago, you would not have had open satanic worship that is on the scene right now. Yes, it was always there, but was kept in a shroud of secrecy.
Today, it’s not even being disguised. There are actual “Churches of Satan” in various places around the country. Satan is in his “glory days” right now, and working harder than ever to draw people away from the Father. It’s not anything that’s new, with the evidence going all the way back to the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3). What is different is the boldness that his followers have in putting down anything Jewish or Christian. Satanic statues are being placed near public buildings where the Ten Commandments are displayed, and there’s no outrage over this. I believe the 2 Thessalonians 2:11 “strong delusion” is making its appearance.
A prime example is seen in the attacks against any business that is known to be owned by Christians. Radicals will single them out to demand services that would clearly be against the owner’s religious beliefs. There are numerous secular businesses in the same area that would cater to them, but they pride themselves in persecuting Christian owners. Several such businesses have had to shut down due to massive legal expenses and unfair court rulings. These owners are being denied their basic “Freedom of Religion” and also their right to earn a living.
Any mention of alternate lifestyles, or saying there’s only two genders is declared as “Hate Speech”, and again, liberal courts are siding with the radicals. So far, the United States Supreme Court is still more conservative than liberal, but it takes a long process to get a case there, and it’s uncertain how long it will be before that court goes to the extreme left. Two of the liberal justices currently on that court have already performed “same-sex” wedding ceremonies.
As an ordained Christian pastor, I will go on record right here, that if a marriage union is not according to God’s true word, I will not officiate at such a ceremony.
Jesus, Paul and others gave us specific prophecies as to what the moral attitudes would be like in these days. They’re all here, and gaining ground daily. The major evangelical denominations all have congregations that are altering the Father’s word to suit the modern attitudes and to fill seats and collection plates. When He was here, Jesus had the most problems with the religious leaders They were so “in-tune” with interpreting God’s word in their own way, that when the real “Truth” was right in front of them, they wouldn’t accept Him.
It seems as if no time passes that it’s announced another religious group says “gay marriage and relationships” are actually condoned by the Father. After all, the stuff in the Bible was for society thousands of years ago, and God is adapting to the current times. What is being overlooked is the Holy Trinity does not change. How about “Jesus is the same yesterday, and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:18). “For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you O children of Jacob are not consumed.” (Malachi 3:6)
Next, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17)
As for all the “time” that has passed, “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.) (2 Peter 3:8) God is not bound by time as He made time for us. Genesis 1:3-5 tells us He created a “day and night” and the rest of the chapter tells what He created and on which day.
Man’s biggest mistake is trying to put the Creator in some type of box that can be explained in human terms. We cannot grasp eternity, yet God has always existed, and will always exist. Jesus and the Holy Spirit are a part of the Godhead, and are the same as the Father. Anything further than that will have to be explained when we get Home; if the Father chooses to do so.
For all the Laodiceans of today, attending the “gender-neutral and generic” services is just something you are doing for entertainment. It would be better to go to a movie, watch TV or play computer games. It would be just as “spiritual” as some of these faux services, where “all religions worship the same God; and Jesus is not necessarily the only way to heaven.”
First, Jesus is not an option; He’s the only way to the Father. (John 14:6) Then again, one has to believe the Bible is the true word of God, and given to us so we would have a guide to obtain eternity with Him.
The true way to Heaven is not difficult, but humans have made it so. Many believe they have to do something to “buy” or “earn” their place in Heaven. Some believe without specific “works” they will not gain approval. What part of “Jesus paid it all” do some fail to understand; or to realize what He did was a tremendous gift for us that satisfied a perfect God’s requirement for a pure blood sacrifice to atone for our sins? It’s something we could never even come close to accomplishing in a trillion years!
The formula is Romans 10: 9-13, “because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord; and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (faith), you will be saved. (10) For with the heart one believes and is justified; and with the mouth, one confesses and is saved. (11) For the scripture says, everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame. (12) For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek (gentiles), for the same Lord is Lord of all (everyone), bestowing His riches on all who call on Him. (13) For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” To those who are perishing, this is total folly. (1 Corinthians 1:18)
To not accept Jesus is the unforgivable sin, and there will be no excuse accepted. Everyone must decide for themselves to receive or reject the Savior. He will force no one, but will accept all who truly call on Him for their Salvation. Even a “Laodicean” can be saved if they change and call on Jesus to rescue their eternal soul. The decision should be made soon, as the time is rapidly approaching that’s given in 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. It’s the rapture, taking up, of all true believers to be with the Lord and escape the Wrath that is also coming. What the Bible describes in Daniel and Revelation as the events that will happen, will take place, no matter what humans believe.
Today would not be too soon to call on Him. We do not know the day or hour that He will call, but everything is in place for it. He could call all believers even as you’re reading this. Come Lord Jesus!
