Wages and Gifts

Wages and Gifts
By Dennis Huebshman

We’ve looked at WRATH, now how about some Good News for Believers. For un-believers the way will be rough to the end.

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

To speak of wages, this is something a person earns. Because of sin, we have “earned” our place in the Lake of Fire. When one works and earns their pay, this has nothing to do with Grace and Mercy. One expects to be compensated for what they have earned. We claim the compensation for our own actions.

A gift is something given that one has not “worked for” but is in spite of ourselves. When a gift is given, it is improper to say how can I pay for this as that would be an insult. In this case, those who receive the gift will have eternal life because someone else earned it for us. It is a gift, not a wage, offered to all, but not accepted by all. We cannot earn or pay for even one minute in Heaven.

Sin is disobedience to God. All sin is against God and He alone can offer forgiveness, Grace and Mercy. (Psalm 51:4)

John 3:16-18, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged: he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 10: 7-9 So Jesus said to them again, Truly Truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, and the sheep did not hear them. I am the door, if anyone enters through me, he will be saved and go in an out and find pasture.

John 10:16 – I have other sheep which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice and they will become one flock with one Shepherd.

John 14:6 – Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by Me.

1 John 5: 10-12 – The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. The one who does not believe in God has made Him a liar, because he does not believe in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. (Saying the same thing as John 3:18 and 14:6)

He who has the Son has life, but He who does not have the Son of God does not have Life. Plain and Simple!

We do not deserve the Gift: Romans 3:23 says All have sinned and fallen short. Those who have chosen to “Own” their lives fall short contrary to God’s will.

We show our gratitude to God for His gift by following Romans 10:9 – that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. PERIOD!

Death is a penalty for not accepting God’s gift. It is chosen just as the song, “I did it my way” would imply. By claiming your own life as your own without God or Jesus, you are accepting your place in the Lake of Fire. It is not a death where one dies and has no knowledge of what’s going on. Eternal life is just a transition from this life to a perfect eternity with the Savior or total and complete separation from Him for all eternity in total darkness. Anyone in the Lake of Fire will be shown constantly all the times they had that they could have accepted Jesus and avoided their eternal fate. Once there, it’s too late.

So, wages will be paid one way or the other. Either by the sinner claiming his/her own life, or by substitution by accepting the gift that was paid for by the Blood of the Lamb – the Only Son of the Living God. This is totally your choice.

God has the right to give conditions for receiving the Free Gift, and He does not make it difficult. Only in the minds of our sin-nature do we question Him and turn away from the free offer.

Satan would love to have company with him when the time comes. Choose not to be there with him; accept the free gift and declare that Jesus is our only way to glory and give thanks and praise to Him who shed His Blood for us.
