Tomorrow is Guaranteed

Tomorrow is Guaranteed
By Dennis Huebshman

No matter what anyone may tell you, tomorrow is guaranteed. Right about here, some are saying, “But you always say we may not have tomorrow.” Others may ask, “Haven’t you said there is no guarantee of the next hour, much less tomorrow?” Am I changing my mind about anything I have presented in the past? Not at all, and I’ll explain further.

First, let’s take a look at a parable about a rich landowner in Luke 12:16-20. His land had produced an “abundant” crop, and he decided he needed to do some remodeling. He bragged he would tear down his old barns, and build bigger ones, and then eat, drink and celebrate for years to come. Thing is, that very night, the Lord called for his soul, and all he had would be given to others. (all emphasis is mine)

Next, we go to Luke 16:19-31 for the parable of the rich man and the beggar Lazarus. There is no other parable where the Lord gave names in them, and some believe this one may actually have been an actual event. Anyway, both died, and went to two very different places. Lazarus is said to have “been carried by the Angels into Abraham’s bosom”. This would indicate he was in a safe and wonderful place of peace and love. The rich man, who is unnamed, is said to have “died and was buried.” He described his situation as being in torment, and longed for even a drop of water to soothe his burning tongue.

The rich man asked that Lazarus be sent back to warn his brothers so they could avoid going to where he was at. He was told there was a “great chasm” that was unable to be crossed from either side, and if the brothers wouldn’t respond to the prophets, they wouldn’t pay attention to anyone risen from the dead.

Each of the above had their lives end on this earth, and then, reality set in. Their “tomorrows” would be extended forever, but in very different surroundings. We are told in numerous locations in the Bible about the two “guaranteed” after-life tomorrows that wait for us. Paradise or torment. There is no description of any other scenario, and those who think this world is all there is, are in for a huge surprise when they take their last breath here.

Those who are self-serving, vain, full of self-pride and not really caring for others, will have all their “reward” on this earth. They are the ones that do not believe in Jesus as being our Savior, and are only interested in “what’s in it for me” while they are here. They are followers of the prince of this world – satan – even if they don’t claim to be.

Then, there are those of us who realize this life on earth is temporary, and we are only visitors, waiting for our Savior to come and take us to our “permanent” residence in paradise. The only “selfish” side of us is we don’t want to give up our home with Jesus for anything. However, we are willing to share our Savior with any and all who would call out to Him to be saved. There is no treasure this earth holds that is more valuable than our Salvation.

Jesus gave us some “Heaven is like” statements, that should give us an indication just how important it is to us. A couple of them are:

Matthew 13:44, “The kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. A man found it, and he concealed it. Then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” One thing to note, by “concealing” it, the man first makes sure he has it. Then in his “joy”, after buying the field, it’s understood he will share the bounty with others.

Matthew 13:45-46, “Again, the kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who on finding one pearl of great value, sold all that he had and bought it.” The pearl is eternal life with the Savior, and that great value pearl is Jesus, Himself. By selling all he had, he forsakes everything of this world for the treasure he has found.

Matthew 13:31-32 is the parable of the mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds, but grows “larger than all the garden plants to become a tree”. I have a tie-tack with a mustard seed in it, and it really is small. The gospel starts out with just one “seed” or message that when passed on grows bringing in more and more souls for the Lord. Isaiah 55:11 says the word of the Lord will not return to Him empty. Anything we put out will get some notice, even if we don’t see it right away.

Besides the “Heaven” statements, Jesus speaks a number of times about the outer darkness – for example Matthew 8:12; Matthew 22:13; Matthew 25:30 to name a few. He specifically said the “everlasting fire” was prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). He tried to be as plain as He could that He and God were the same person (John 10:30), and He is the only Way, Truth and Life that will bring someone to the Father. (John 14:6>0

All who died from the beginning of time that were out of the will of God, and all from the Cross forward that have died and will die without Jesus are not, and will not be in their final torment. As was the rich man in the Lazarus parable, there is a pre-torment holding area while waiting for the final judgment. The rich landowner, if he was a real person, is there also. Thing is, punishment will start immediately.

The first mention of anyone actually being thrown into the Lake of Fire are the antichrist and false prophet in Revelation 19:20. It is said they are thrown in the lake of fire burning with sulfur. The next “occupant” will be satan himself, 1000 years later (Revelation 20:10). Then the final populating of the Lake takes place at a “Great White Throne” where final judgment of all that were not written in the Book of Life takes place (Revelation 20:11-15). This is the “broad way” Jesus spoke of in Matthew 7:13-14, and included all from the beginning (Genesis 1:1) to the end of the Millennium.

Paul gives us hope that when believers pass away, our souls, that part of us that is the “real us”, will be at peace in the presence of the Lord immediately. Philippians 1:23, “I feel torn between the two (living or going to Jesus) because I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far”.

At the Rapture, the dead in Christ will rise to meet Him before those who are alive are taken up. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) This will happen, “In a moment, in the blinking/twinkling of an eye” as given in 1 Corinthians 15:52-53. The dead will receive new bodies for the souls that were with Jesus, and those taken while yet alive will “convert” immediately to their imperishable immortal bodies. By the way, God knows where all the bodies are, no matter what is left of them, even if only a molecule.

There are many who will not accept the word of the Lord, because they think it’s foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:18). Believing it isn’t so will not make it go away, even though satan would like you to believe that lie.

The judgments of the righteous are held just after the Rapture at the Judgment Seat of Christ; at the end of the tribulation for those who accepted Jesus and remained faithful through it; and then at the end of the Millennium for those who remained faithful and all those from the beginning to the Cross. All will enter the new Jerusalem with Jesus to be with Him forever. That is their “tomorrow”. All of the Savior’s judgments are for rewards, not punishment.

Going back to Joshua 24:15, and paraphrasing, choose today who you will worship – My Family and I choose the Lord! We want our “tomorrows” to be glorious, no matter when it comes.

Those who choose otherwise, will have a miserable “tomorrow”. It will last forever. There is coming a day when people will seek death, but will not be able to find it. (Revelation 9:6) This is a time during the tribulation, but will also apply to those in the Lake of Fire. There will be no relief – ever!

To accept Jesus today will end any speculation you may have about tomorrow. A few verses to check; Acts 4:12 says there’s no other name by which we can be saved; Romans 10:9-13 says to confess, believe and have faith that Jesus is our Savior, and He gave His life to conquer sin and death for us; Acts 2:21 – all who call on Him will be saved. This is your most important planning tool for the future you’ll ever make.

Shalom!
