This World Is Not My Home
By Dennis Huebshman
Every day that passes brings a greater longing to finally leave this evil world, and be in our eternal home. There was a song that was written by Jim Reeves’ wife, Mary Reeves Davis, called, “This World Is Not My Home”. There have been numerous artists that have recorded this, and every day that thought goes though my mind. By the way, Jim Reeves recording is very inspirational and can be heard on YouTube. (any emphasis is mine)
The one concern we should all have is, will my loved ones be with us in Heaven forever? Or, will we be separated forever because they just didn’t get around to receiving our Savior? I have loved ones that have made it known, they have views of their own, and for me not to “preach” to them. In my heart, I would love to just sit them down and at least try to find out where their hearts actually lie. However, our Heavenly Father knows this, and in my prayers, I ask Him to bring someone or something into their paths to at least get them thinking about Jesus and their eternity. I have even asked, that if it would lead them to the Savior, for a dream or vision where just a glimpse of what Hell will really be like. It may sound extreme, but forever is a long time.
Hell – The Lake of Fire – was not prepared to be a place where people who haven’t accepted Jesus will sit around “socializing” and “partying” forever. I have heard numerous people say they’ll be satisfied going to Hell so they can be with all their friends. I realize this is an attempt to be humorous, but that place isn’t anything to joke about, and they have no idea what really is there.
In Matthew 25:41, Jesus said the Lake of Fire was made for satan and his angels (demons). It was designed as a place for eternal punishment for going against God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. There will be different degrees of punishment, depending on what each individual did here on earth. It’s obvious, satan will receive the harshest punishment of all.
One more fact, Jesus spoke of the “outer darkness” which will be literal. There will be no light in Hell, and each one there will have a “forever body” that will not be subject to any relief from whatever punishment that has been assigned to them. Luke 16 tells of the rich man that ends up there. Actually, he would be in a holding place (hades), waiting for the Great White Throne Judgment. Hell is not occupied at this time as the first occupants will be the antichrist and his false prophet. (Revelation 19:20) They will have it all to themselves for one thousand years.
At the end of the Millennial reign of our Savior, and a final short rebellion takes place, satan will be the next one to be cast into the Lake. Then, all who have died since the beginning of earth’s existence that did not do God’s will before Calvary; to the end of the Millennium for those from Calvary forward that didn’t accept Jesus, will be put in a very long line. They will receive their individual punishment assignment that will last forever. (Revelation 20:10-15)
Getting back to the rich man, he and all others that are going to be cast into the Lake of Fire will not have rest when they take their last breath here. The “holding” place is just a prelude to what they are going to experience forever. He asked that his family be warned in order for them to avoid his fate, He was told it’s up to each individual to make their choice. He didn’t listen to the prophets, and his brothers would not be prone to listen either.
For those who believe this earth is all they’ll have, and live as if they have to get all their enjoyment here, the song written by Jim Reeves wife is something to be seriously considered.
(1) This world is not my home; I’m just a passing through. My treasures are laid up, somewhere beyond the blue. The angels beckon me, from Heaven’s open door. And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
(c) Oh Lord, you know; I have no friend like you. If Heaven’s not my Home, then Lord what will I do? The angels beckon me, from Heaven’s open door. And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
(2) I have a loving mother, just over in glory land. And I don’t expect to stop, until I shake her hand. She’s waiting now for me, in Heaven’s open door; and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore. (c)
(3) Just over in glory land, we’ll live eternally. The saints on every hand, are shouting Victory! Their songs of sweetest praise, drift back from Heaven’s shore. And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore. (c)
As we get older and remain on this side of our eternity, we will see more and more of our loved ones leave this earth. My parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and several friends have passed away. My wife’s parents, grandparents, aunts and several others have also crossed from life to death
Our greatest wish is that each and every one of them had Jesus in their hearts. Those loved ones that remain are constantly in our prayers that they are part of our Savior’s flock (John 10), and when the time comes, there’ll be a reunion like never before.
Our Heavenly Father loves us so much (John 3:16 and Romans 5:8) that He sent a most precious part of Himself to be our Savior. Jesus was not forced to go through His terrible death, but did so willingly. (John 10:18) While on this earth as fully man, He led a sinless life in order for Him to be our perfect sacrifice, as an atonement for our sins. To put it more personally – for MY Sins!
The end of this age is rapidly approaching the “midnight hour”. That is symbolic that this current age will end, and a period of 7-years will happen that will be far more terrible than this earth has ever experienced. It is called the “Wrath” or “Tribulation”, and by the end of it, almost 2/3 of the world population will have perished.
Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 1:10 that we are waiting for God’s Son, Jesus, to deliver us from the Wrath to come. This is for all believers. The event is the taking us up to meet Jesus in the air (Rapture). We will all receive our “forever bodies”. The dead In Christ, will rise first, and their bodies will merge with their souls that have been with Jesus since they died. Those who are alive will be taken up next, and everyone will immediately have an immortal body designed to last forever in paradise All this is in 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. The amazing part is it takes place in less than one second – in the Twinkling of an Eye.
If you have not received Jesus and accepted Him as your Savior, you would do well to call on Him today. The Rapture will happen, and it could be at any minute. Once it’s over, there will still be the ability to accept Jesus, but at a cost that will be severe.
Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6), and all who call on Him will be saved. (Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:9-13) It’s totally your choice. God will in no way force anyone to accept the free gift, paid for in full by Jesus at Calvary. If you take your last breath here without having Jesus as your Savior, you will be separated from Him forever. It’s totally your choice – Heaven or Hell, and no other option.
Call on Him soon; tomorrow may just be too late.
