It has been said: Sin will take you where you don’t want to go; keep you there longer than you want to stay and cost you more than you want to pay. Satan is always right there trying to get you to slip so he can tell you just how unworthy you are.
We all know what sin is – don’t we? It’s anything that seems like fun, so God tells us we can’t do that. After all, He’s an old man who sits on a throne way up above us with a book in His hands and a big red pencil that makes a mark every time we mess up – Right? When our time comes to face Him, He adds all the red marks just to see how much “punishment” we are going to get. If this were so, my page would be in full technicolor!
At the very least, this is how the secular world views our Heavenly Father. Things He has set apart as “don’t do’s” are all for our own good and many times for our health.
How much fun is it to wake up wondering what all you’ve done, and why does your head feel like it’s going to explode! The very thought of food just makes you sicker. God never said that all alcohol in itself is evil as some would preach. ABUSE is what He is concerned about. Even food can be abused. Jesus drank wine, and this was not just old grape juice either. However, He knew how much was enough and expects us to do the same. By the way, when Jesus turned the water into wine, it was said it was the finest ever. (John 2: 1-10).
How much fun is it to go against your marriage vows and commit an action that is totally disrespectful of your spouse? God made man and woman different so that we would be attracted to each other. However, He said the marriage bed is sacred and not to be defiled. A few moments of so-called pleasure can cause you more pain and grief than you could ever imagine. Another con about this are the types of diseases that are out there today. More and more there are some that cannot be cured. Does this sound like fun?
Hollywood and a minority of the population want you to believe Alternate Lifestyles are the way it is to be today. Our Father says this is an abomination under all circumstances. Those advocating these lifestyles – LGBT and all the other initials – believe if they yell loud and long enough everyone will eventually “agree” with them. If not, we’re automatically called a “hater”. They seem to be in the majority but are really only a fraction of society.
For the unmarried, God wants you to wait until you find the right partner and abstain from defiling your body. We are told our bodies are a Temple where we are to honor and praise the Lord. If you’re indwelt by the Holy Spirit, do you really want to take Him out for a night of carousing??
Everywhere we look, we are bombarded with ads telling us how to be more sexy; more healthy; more SELF! God tells us we are to control our pride. Pride is the first step to taking a giant fall. (Proverbs 16:18) We can never have enough, be good enough or meet all our “wants” to be satisfied. The only satisfaction is when we accept our Jesus as Savior and realize this is just a fraction of time in our eternal lives. We’re here on earth for about a blink of the eye to God. However, the decisions we make here are eternal in consequences. Good consequences or bad consequences – your choice. Satan is always there to tell you how to “have fun”, and then he’s there to tell you how miserable of a person you are afterwards. Great friend, eh? Problem is, our pride listens to him and we believe we are “entitled” to earth and all its pleasures.
There are things that are fun and fulfilling, and don’t require any kind of sin to do them. My wife and I taught Vacation Bible School two years in a row at a Cowboy Church and had a blast! The good feeling of seeing those young partners catch on that Jesus is their Lord was absolutely amazing. Also, there was a fall fest for the kids setting up a carnival atmosphere which was just as fulfilling. The youngsters learned they could have a real good and refreshing time, and learn about their Savior at the same time.
Singing praises to the Lord, meaningful prayers and just good old-fashioned get-togethers help us to bind with each other reinforce our Love for the Lord. Sharing the word with friends and others is always refreshing. Just be prepared for the evil one to try to mess it up.
Another idea is getting together around holiday times to make up care packages for the needy, adopting a family that otherwise would have no Thanksgiving or Christmas. This is a pleasure that will only be measured when we get to our Heavenly Home. It may not be a real big deal to us right now but think of the ones that receive the blessings that people of the Lord provided. We are told that sometimes when we do a good deed we have actually ministered to Angels. (Hebrews 13:2)
As for sin, all have sinned and fallen short. Everyone is a sinner. Difference between believers and them is we know where to go for the Grace and Mercy. Once you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, you will want to change from the evil lifestyle you had before. Paul said the things he wanted to do he didn’t, and the things he didn’t want to do he did. (Romans 7:15; 19) All the apostles spoke of a forgiving God. 1 John 1:8-10 tells us how to handle a situation when we sin. Confess…Give it to God…Allow Him to bless and forgive you, then change the way you live. It’s not an over-night process and many will fall more than once. Sometimes I think I’m on a trampoline with all my ups and downs. But I have the confidence of knowing I have a Heavenly Father that Loves Me, and once forgiven there is no record of my past sin. We won’t be perfect until we get Home. If we were, why would we need a Savior to give a perfect sacrifice for us?
Think long and hard on this. You have the choice right now of whom you will follow. He knows your weaknesses and will strengthen you if you will ask. He has patience that we can only imagine. God does not want anyone to fail (2 Peter 3:9), but as a righteous God will allow you to choose eternal death if that’s what you want. In the meantime, He has done all He can to give us a chance.
HE SENT HIS SON TO DIE FOR US! He took our punishment that we so deserve to bear; He died, He paid our fare in full. God does not expect anything from us in return except our Love and Acceptance that Jesus is His Son, and that He is worthy to be called our Savior. Jesus arose so sin and death would be conquered forever, and the blood sacrifice required by the Father would be totally satisfied.
No one or nothing else could ever do this for us.
Thank Jesus today that He covered your sins (and Mine) and ask Him to come into your life so you can be with Him forever. He has covered ALL your sins if you will just sincerely believe in Him If you wait, it may be too late. I have asked this before, but it’s worth repeating; can you guarantee you have another day on this earth? If the Rapture falls today, as we do not know the day our hour, will you be going up to meet Him, or will you be left behind? Unfortunately, many people are so wrapped up in themselves they believe they have control over their mortal lives. Satan would love for you to believe this and delay or miss altogether an opportunity to call on the name of the Lord. Too many times I have seen people who figured they had time left, but their souls were required early.
If you take your last breath on earth today, be sure the very next instant you will be in the presence of the Lord, and not put into a waiting place for eternal punishment as was given in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man. Once that last breath happens, your eternal destiny is set. It’s so easy to guarantee you have eternal life. Accept Jesus – you have the Father.
I’ve given these verses before, but check them out again – John 14:6; John 3:18; 1 John 5: 10-12; Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13. He’s waiting for you.
