Just Open The Door!
By Dennis Huebshman
Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will (a promise) come into him/her and eat with him/her, and he/she with Me.” (emphasis mine)
There is a famous painting called “The Light of the World”, painted by William Holman around 1853-1854. It shows a depiction of the Savior standing at a door with a lantern in His hand. There are vines growing over the surface of the door, and there is no outside handle. If it is to be opened, it must be from the inside.
Another Artist, William Sallman, painted one called “Christ at Heart’s Door”, and has Jesus dressed in glowing white, and hand extended as if knocking on a large door. Again, there is no handle on Jesus’ side of the door. Sallman also did another painting called “The Head Of Christ”, which shows a depiction of Jesus from the shoulders up, and is a profile view. Both of Sallamn’s paintings are probably the most famous in the world of Christianity. There are several other paintings by various artists, but the ones mentioned above are probably the most well known. To see them, just go to the internet and enter, “Christ at the door”.
One disclaimer I need to make right here, is one I’ve given before; anything that is man-made is not to be worshiped in the place of the Lord. To have something to remind us that Jesus is our Savior, and to see it as a reminder only, is not the problem. All through history, man has made “gods” to be worshiped as if any object could possibly have powers. I have various “crosses” around our house, and do not “worship” any of them. When I look at one, I say “Thank You Jesus, for loving someone such as I.”
Exodus 20:3-5, “You shall have no other gods before Me. (4) You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. (5) You shall not bow down to them, or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me.” This holds a very serious warning about “false-god” worship.
Another warning is Leviticus 26:1, “You shall not make idols for yourselves, or erect an image on pillars, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your hand to bow down to it; for I Am The Lord Your God.” Very definite statement that leaves no doubt who the Creator is.
There are numerous other warnings throughout the Bible about worshiping anything but God. Today, people worship many different things, with money being at the top of the list. How about vehicles, homes, jobs, another person more than God, or anything that is man-made. There is a famous person who states she was raised in a “Christian” home, but has turned away from her original faith because she finds it hard to believe any “god” could be jealous. Let me just say; any Creator that made me and everything I have ever had or ever will have, has a right to be “jealous”, if I try to give allegiance to anything, or anyone else. After all, He had provided a way I can be with Him forever in a perfect environment; free from disease; suffering; hate; sin of any kind; and free from death. Our most Holy Triune God loves us in a way that is hard for the fallen human nature to understand. Once we grasp exactly what our Lord God Jehovah is offering, it amazes us that we could have turned to anything else.
Faith in the unseen is one of the hardest traits to have. We can all believe in what we can see, feel and touch. John 20:28 is where one of the twelve apostles gets a lesson in faith in the unseen. Jesus is having an encounter with “doubting Thomas”, and “Jesus said to him, have you believed because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believed.” This applies especially today!
In the very first paragraph of this message, Revelation 3:20 tells us anyone who opens the door (their heart) to Jesus; He will come in and “dine with them”. He is preparing all who will receive Him to be a part of the “Marriage Supper of the Lamb”. Revelation 19 tells of this event, and verse 9 says, “And the Angel said to me, write this; blessed are those who are invited to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb; and he said to me; These Are The True Words Of God.”
Who are those at this meal? Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13 state, “And it shall come to pass, that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” This is referring to every “individual” world-wide, that is willing to call out for Jesus to forgive them their past sins, and come into their hearts and be their Savior.
Those who believe they have sinned far beyond God’s forgiveness, need to consider Psalm 103:11-13, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; (12) as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us. (13) As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear Him”. This fear is not to be afraid of Him, but to totally show respect to our Most Holy Creator. There are accounts today of ISIS terrorists calling out to the Savior and being forgiven. It seems like an impossibility, but to our God, nothing is impossible. All who will repent and turn from their evil ways is just what He is looking for. (2 Peter 3:9)
The door with no handle shows Jesus will not force entry into our hearts. We open that door with the understanding we must accept Jesus and His gift, that He paid so dearly for at Calvary with His precious life blood For Us! Our Father’s love is a pure love that allows for everyone to repent and accept Jesus (again 2 Peter 3:9), but knows there are many who will not do so. He allows any who wish to do so to reject Jesus. Their fate will be the Lake of Fire as given in Revelation 20:11-15; and at their final judgment, they will be shown they chose to be in torment forever.
Satan has been on this earth deceiving people since the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3); and even some of the angels in heaven before that. Those who chose to follow Lucifer are now the demons we hear so much about, and their fate is sealed. There is no forgiveness path for them. Without Jesus in our hearts, and the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, we are no match for satan and his demons. His days are numbered, yet he’s so evil, he wants to pull as many souls away from Jesus as possible. He can make the things of this world seem so good that people will worship him. Some openly accept satan as their master, and it’s becoming more and more common. Just a decade ago, you would not have found open worship of Lucifer, yet today, Churches of Satan (talk about a misnomer) are springing up around the country. The Father realizes some will not accept Jesus, no matter what, and it’s said He will provide a “deluding influence” for them to believe the “lie”. (2 Thessalonians 2:11) I’m sad to say there are more than one Church of Satan in Dallas, which is close to our residence.
We have been given everything we need to be able to spend eternity with Jesus, if we but ask. Ask and accept are the only two actions required. We can’t buy or earn our Salvation. It’s through the Grace of Jesus and the Mercy of the Father that we can by-pass what we actually deserve.
We don’t know exactly when Jesus will return to call His Church (all believers) up to avoid the Wrath, but all the signs today say it’s real soon. At the end of Matthew 24, Jesus tells of returning at a time when we don’t expect Him. He advises to be ready at all times. After the Rapture will be too late; to have Him in your heart beforehand is an absolute guarantee of eternity with Him. Call today! Tomorrow could just be too late.
Maranatha! (Come Lord Jesus)
