Ten Reasons to Believe the Bible

Ten Reasons to Believe the Bible
By Mike Gendron

Why Should Anyone Believe the Bible?

There is so much evidence that the Bible is indeed God’s Word and we can trust it to guide us through life and prepare us for eternity. The Bible is dramatically different from all other religious books. No other book has all ten of the following characteristics:

1. Unique In Its Divine Origin

The authors claimed their writings were inspired by God. “Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” They claimed they spoke for God. “Thus says the Lord” occurs nearly 500 times. With such claims, the Bible should meet the highest standard for accuracy. (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:21).

2. Unique In Its Unity and Harmony

God commissioned 40 different authors from all walks of life, over 1,500 years, on 3 continents, to write the 66 books of the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, the writers are united in truth and harmony, to reveal a complex drama about God’s redemption of man through the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Unique in Its Influence and Popularity

No other book has impacted society and culture so impressively or has changed lives so dramatically. The Bible is the most circulated book in history. It has been read and studied and quoted by more people than any other book. It is the most translated book ever – 2454 languages covering 98% of the world’s population.

4. Unique In The Reliability of Its Transmission

In 1948 a shepherd made the greatest manuscript discovery of all times near the Dead Sea. Entire manuscripts were found that were copied over 2000 years ago and were essentially the same as our modern copies, proving they were transmitted over many centuries with extraordinary precision.

5. Unique in Its Indestructibility

The Bible has withstood intense scrutiny by thousands of skeptics and survived continuous attacks by emperors, kings, and dictators. They all failed in their attempts to destroy its message. God’s word will stand forever!

6. Unique in its Message of Salvation

The Bible reveals God’s only way of salvation. He offers forgiveness and eternal life in paradise as a free gift of His grace through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. All other religious books declare man must merit salvation through works, religious rituals and/or law keeping.

7. Unique in its Historical And Geographical Accuracy

Archeologists continue to unearth evidence of ancient people, places, and cultures described in the Bible. Virtually every discovery has proven the Scriptures to be true. The faith of people who visit Israel is affirmed by what they experienced.

8. Unique in its Painfully Honest Accounts of Its Heroes

The Bible reveals Moses, the lawgiver, was a murderer, David, Israel’s most loved king and spiritual leader, was an adulterer, Paul, was the worst of sinners, and Peter, was a betrayer of the Lord Jesus.

9. Unique in Scientific Accuracy

Modern technology continues to unfold the mysteries of the universe that were recorded in Scripture thousands of years ago. The God, who created the universe and set in motion the laws that govern it, is the same God who inspired the writers to record these fascinating mysteries.

10. Unique In Its Prophecy

The Bible contains over 2500 prophecies that foretell specific details about the Messiah, Israel, nations and cities. 2000 have already been fulfilled without error. When the Bible was written 30% of it was prophetic.

The Bible is so amazing! It brings truth where there is deception, understanding where there is ignorance, confidence where there is doubt, order where there is confusion and light where there is darkness. Instead of trusting what man says God says, we can go directly to what God says.
