The Realm of Angels
By Chuck Missler
Are there angels in your outfield? Are they just elements of colorful fiction or comedy? Or are angels real? Today? There are few topics that are more characterized by presumptions and misinformation than that of angels…from childhood fairy tales to total ignorance. Even the darker side—of demons and fallen angels—although surprisingly popular in current entertainment, is characterized by mythology and is rarely taken seriously. So before proceeding further, let’s reexamine some of the boundaries to what we call “reality.”
The Boundaries of Our “Reality”
In the diagram on page 11, we will represent the reach of man by DaVinci’s “Vitruvian Man.” Moving toward the region of “largeness” (which we will designate as the “Macrocosm”), we plunge into the realm of astronomy and astrophysics. Here we discover that one of the most profound conclusions of 20th century science is that the universe is finite. (It may be expanding, but it is not infinite.) And we know it had a beginning. That’s what has led to the speculations about how it all started—“the Big Bang” conjectures: “First there was nothing; then it exploded.”
As we move toward the direction of “smallness” (which we will designate as the “Microcosm”), we encounter an even more bizarre assemblage of discoveries in the realm of quantum physics and sub-atomic particles. Electrons, photons, etc., all are apparently directly connected in a hyperspace of some kind.
So if we attempt to integrate what we know, we must recognize that we live within a virtual reality that is actually a digital simulation! (Furthermore, we are also discovering that some of the so-called “constants” of physics are changing.) As summarized in a Scientific American article, “Our universe is but a shadow of a larger reality.” That’s precisely what the Bible has said all along! We will designate this extended reality as the “Metacosm.”
The 10-Dimensional Metacosm
Both the astrophysicists and the quantum physicists now tell us that we apparently live in a hyperspace of more than four dimensions—ten is a current estimate.
(It was Albert Einstein’s insight that time is a fourth physical dimension which led to the now fabled “General Theory of Relativity” that created such a climax for 20th century science. It is interesting that the Apostle Paul had already listed these four dimensions in Ephesians 3:18.)
Of the ostensible ten dimensions we now know exist, only four are directly perceptible by our current technologies. The remaining six are “curled” (to use the nomenclature of metric tensors) in less than 10-33 cm. (smaller than the wavelength of light) and thus are not directly discernible by current methodologies. It is also interesting that the Hebrew sage known as Nachmonides, writing in the 13th century, concluded from his study of the Book of Genesis that the universe has ten dimensions, but only four of them are “knowable” by man.
It appears that many millions of dollars have been spent on atomic accelerators only to learn what Nachmonides concluded from his study of the text of Genesis!
From hints in Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, some of us suspect that the original creation was “fractured” as a result of the curse declared in Genesis 3.
It would seem that the domain of the “Metacosm”—which includes the elusive six dimensions—is the realm of the trans-dimensional phenomena such as angels, demons, and, perhaps, UFOs and other paranormal phenomena.
It is noteworthy that the two most venerated researchers of UFO phenomena, Jacques Vallée, the Frenchman, and J. Allen Hynek, the American, each concluded—after weeding out the hoaxes and other unsubstantiated nonsense—that UFOs do actually exist and are demonic: i.e., hyperdimensional and bent on deceit. (Furthermore, I also have reason to understand that this area of study presently enjoys a security classification even higher than that of our most sensitive warheads!)
So one of our major hindrances as we approach the subject of the “Angelic Realm” will come from the myopia of our obsolete Euclidean perspective. The more you know about the advanced frontiers of science, the more comfortable the Biblical text appears. So let’s summarize what the only reliable source about this realm tells us.
Biblical Angels
As we search the Scriptures, we find that there are a number of different ranks of angels: Cherubim, Seraphim, and others. We know a couple by name: Michael and Gabriel. And they seem to have specific job descriptions—the military commander of the Lord’s hosts and the principal announcer of events involving the Messiah, respectively.
We also learn that angels can materialize, take people by the hand, eat meals with mankind, and indulge in combat. Some have even entertained angels unawares.
Some fallen angels have even been guilty of producing hybrids—Nephilim, the “fallen ones”—that led to, among other things, the flood of Noah’s day. These strange activities are confirmed several times in the New Testament. And there is reason to expect more of these bizarre occurrences on our near horizon. The emergent trend toward “transhumanism” will also usher in similar, new concerns.
Demons
Demons, in contrast to angels, seem to be powerless except through gaining control of a person. Although they seem to lack the ability to directly materialize, these sentient, hostile beings know their destiny, recognize the authority of the Messiah, and yet even require permission to enter animals.
Furthermore, poor spiritual hygiene can inadvertently grant access to these diabolical creatures and cause astonishing misery to the unwary. This is typically the result of dabbling in the occult, or pursuing forbidden mysteries and practices.
The Invisible War
Perhaps the most disturbing discovery in this realm is that there exists an intense warfare within the Metacosm and it profoundly impacts the world around us. We find it is alluded to throughout the Scriptures and it appears to reflect itself upon all of our contemporary geopolitical realities. (The role of the occult Thule Society behind the Nazi Party in Germany, and their preemptive priorities in exterminating Jews—even eclipsing those for their own survival in the final throes of the World War II—is clear evidence of their demonic servitude. The current rise of Islam is also clearly more than a passing trend….)
The Bible clearly presents the hyper-dimensional realities that surround us and it is imperative that we “do our homework.” Our personal survival depends upon it.
We need to understand that we are both the pawns—and the prize—in this continuing cosmic struggle. We need to formulate our personal spiritual hygiene to avoid debilitating entanglements, and further, we need to thoroughly equip ourselves with the seven essential elements of the Armor of God.
Hopefully, this brief summary will prompt you to take these things seriously and to personally undertake an intensive study of these issues.
