A Puppet in the Wings
Vic Batista: Daniel 9:27 and 2 Thessalonians 2:4 reveals that one day the Antichrist, “shall confirm a covenant with the many for one week,” but then break the covenant by setting himself up in the Jewish Temple to be worshiped as God. The Antichrist only honors the first 3.5 years of the peace covenant he had made with Israel.
Nothing like this has ever happened in history, so of course, this covenant hasn’t then been made yet between the Antichrist and Israel. If we are truly in the last days, as I believe we are, then the Antichrist could possibly be alive, even right now!
Nathan Jones: Satan doesn’t know the future other than what is written in the Bible, so he always has a man ready in the wings who he’ll possess in order to take over the world. Satan tried with Hitler during World War II. He then tried with Stalin after World War II. Likely Saddam Hussein was Satan’s man in the 90’s.
Satan always has one man ready to rise up as his puppet world dictator. As soon as the good guys get rid of one bad guy in the world, there is another one who will show up to take his place. We got rid of Saddam and then all of a sudden we have Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of ISIS. The world gets rid of one dictator and another one pops up to take his place. Tragically, the cycle never seems to end. So, Satan is always ready with a man poised to conquer the world.
Do I believe the Antichrist of Bible prophecy is alive today? I certainly do. The reason for this conclusion is because Jesus in Luke 21, Matthew 24, and Mark 13 described the signs of the end times that point to the soon return of Jesus Christ. He warned that the signs would increase in frequency and intensity the closer we got to His return. These signs include the increase in earthquakes and an increase in wars, just like we read about in Daniel 9:26-27 concerning the wars and desolations. All these signs and many more will increase exponentially just before Jesus returns. We live in such a time period filled with an incredible amount of signs, and they are all converging together. Especially, Israel is a nation again, and that right there tells us that Jesus is coming soon. And so, too, then is the Antichrist.
Vic Batista: Everywhere we turn we’re hit with the signs of the end times such as runaway technological advances, the development of nuclear weapons, increased transportation, and more. You name it! And here it is, all sandwiched in between Daniel 9:26 and 27 in terms of what is actually happening prophetically.
The Day of Salvation
Vic Batista: When we see these prophecies being fulfilled, we can know that our time here on this earth is drawing short. The Lord Jesus is coming for His children at any moment!
Today, then, would be the time to initiate a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, if you haven’t already. Certainly, we don’t have much time left before Jesus returns. Today is the day of salvation! Turn to the Lord right now and recognize that you’ve messed up, you have sinned, but you have a God who loves you and is willing to forgive you of your sins, if you grab hold of His Son, Jesus. Salvation and Heaven are the hope that Christ offers.
Nathan Jones: Everybody can have that hope of eternal life when they put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior. The Messiah, the prophesied one who was cut off as Daniel 9:26 prophesied, is our eternal hope, for He may have been cut off, but not for Himself. Nobody killed Jesus Christ. He allowed Himself to die for our sins. No one can kill God, for God allowed Himself to die.
And just why would He do that? Jesus did so because He loves us so very much. He wants our sins to be forgiven in order to be reconciled with our Heavenly Father. God wants that relationship between Him and us restored. God would like nothing more than to talk and walk and have that very same fellowship like He once had with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God invites you into His forever home in Heaven.
I am so looking forward to that day when we meet our Heavenly Father face to face. So exciting! I am looking forward to Daniel’s Seventieth Week finding fulfillment, as horrible as it will be, in order to get to the end to this prophetic time period so we can get to the good stuff — Jesus’ Millennial Kingdom, followed by the Eternal State.
Vic Batista: I am ready to fly! I am ready for the new, glorified body promised every believer in Christ.
Nathan Jones: Yes, we are promised a 2.0 upgrade, so to speak, a glorified body Jesus transforms us into as He raptures the Church up to Heaven. When Jesus takes all who have put their faith and trust in Him up to Heaven, that’s when we’re promised newly resurrected bodies. My earthly body is just starting to fall apart, so I too am looking forward to the glorified, super-strong body that we will one day receive.
Vic Batista: So many wonderful things await us when we grab hold of a relationship with Jesus Christ. John 14 reveals that Jesus is preparing a place for us in Heaven. We can get the wonderful details about that New Jerusalem as it’s called in Revelation 21-22.
Nathan Jones: Mankind was made to have fellowship with God. We were made to dwell in His home forever, in that New Jerusalem, when Heaven shall finally come down to a New Earth. There we will dwell with Jesus Christ forever.
But, in order to grab hold of eternal life, we need to have our sins forgiven. We could never stand before a Holy God in our sinful bodies. Jesus achieved that reconciliation by dying on the cross for our sins. When we repent of our rebellion against God and put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we shall be saved from our sins and the just punishment of Hell.
The Tribulation — Daniel’s Seventieth Week — is coming soon! The Tribulation is the wrath of God. Similar to the Flood, a judgment is quickly coming upon mankind. The Angel Gabriel tells us that God’s wrath will last for seven years. We can accept Christ’s salvation and avoid the Tribulation, or reject Christ’s salvation and plunge headlong into judgment. God leaves the choice up to each of us.
In the twenty-eighth segment of this series on the mighty angels of Daniel, we’ll examine the prophetic necessity of a Third Temple.
