The Prophetic Implications of Trump’s Election
Many students of Bible prophecy have been asking if the election of Donald Trump has any prophetic significance. The answer is: maybe, from two perspectives. First is the end time prophecy of Elam in Jeremiah 49:34-39. In a prior post titled “Buckle Your Rapture Seat Belts, Parts 1-3” I described likely scenarios involved in an Israeli attack to eliminate Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
In that prophecy Jeremiah describes the fascinating devastation that will occur to ancient Elam located in what is modern day Iran. Elam is an ancient land mentioned in the Bible. It stretches from the very northern end of the Persian Gulf down along the west coast of Iran and includes Bushehr Province and the provincial capital city Bushehr. Directly across the Persian Gulf sits Kuwait. Bushehr is the location of a nuclear reactor that is a key Iranian facility in its drive to acquire nuclear weapons.
Jeremiah describes a severe judgment against Elam. In very powerful language God describes His fierce anger and judgment against Elam: “The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam…Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might…I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith the LORD; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them…it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the LORD.” (Jeremiah 49:34-39).
According to Obadiah 1:15, God judges nations in relation to what they do to Israel. Elam was a fierce enemy of Israel and participated with the Babylonians in attacking Jerusalem. History has come full circle with Elam/Iran again trying to destroy Israel and capture Jerusalem. The contemporary Elamites are part of Iran that wants to destroy Israel and annihilate the Jews. Modern day Elam is Israel’s most dangerous enemy and it is the center of Shiite Islam which wants to conquer the world for its faux deity, the moon god Allah.
This unfulfilled prophecy is a judgment that will be fulfilled “in the latter days.” It speaks of the people being driven off the land and scattered to all nations. It also speaks of the God of Israel setting His throne in Elam. Neither of these events has happened before in recorded history.
The prophecy records in Jeremiah 35 that God is going to break the bow of Elam which means its military power. It is fascinating that God focuses on destroying Elam’s bow, rather than the arrows and other offensive armaments. In other words, God will destroy Iran’s ability to launch nuclear weapons against His ancient people, the Jews.
Israel appeared to be on the verge of attacking Iran on several occasions during the presidency of Barrack Obama. Plans were so advanced that the Israelis arranged to refuel their warplanes in Azerbaijan and obtained permission to overfly Saudi territory for a more direct flight to Iranian targets.
The attack never took place because Obama apparently sabotaged Israel’s plans. He was committed to his disastrous appeasement of the Iranian Mullahs in some twisted narcissistic desire to be seen as a breakthrough statesman. Blinded by narcissism, he literally gave away the store to get Iran to agree to the deal. Seeing that Obama was a monumental chump, the Iranians wasted no time in violating it almost immediately, as they had with more than twenty other prior agreements.
The full extent of Obama’s efforts to derail Israeli attack plans is not yet known. History has shown that once an administration is out of office, and insiders no longer are bound by the need to remain loyal or to answer to those in power, once jealously guarded secrets begin to be revealed. Once Obama’s shadow no longer darkens the doorstep of the White House the secrets of his disastrous presidency will spill forth. I fear that the truth of Obama’s treachery towards Israel will be as shocking as it is disgusting. Some national security analysts believe that the Israelis have put their plans on hold until Obama is out of office.
What has been revealed so far is so outrageous and disgraceful that if it had occurred during any other presidency it would have toppled the administration. But since the mainstream media has blatantly abandoned its watchdog role and acted as overt shills for Obama there has been little if any coverage of his treachery and the damage he has done.
In March, 2012 an article in Foreign Policy revealed formerly secret agreements between Israel and Azerbaijan. They allowed Israel to use Azeri air bases and spy drones to help Israeli jets perform a long-range strike on Iran. The agreements would help Israel with refueling, reconnaissance, and rescuing air crews that could make an attack on Iran more feasible.
The plan apparently involved using an Israeli tanker aircraft painted in the colors of a third country airline company that would land and refuel in Azerbaijan and then refuel the Israeli strike aircraft. Former UN Ambassador John Bolton accused the Obama administration of leaking details of the secret Azerbaijan agreement.
On September 30, 2012, news sources revealed that Saudi Arabia was willing to assist an Israeli attack by cooperating with the use of drones, rescue helicopters, and tanker planes for refueling. According to the same news sources, the Netanyahu government took the decision to strike Iran some time in 2014 soon after Israel had discovered the United States and Iran had been involved in secret talks over Iran’s nuclear program and were about to sign an agreement behind Israel’s back. In keeping with long-standing defense agreements, the Israelis “revealed the attack plan to Obama’s Secretary of State John Kerry.”
In a panic to prevent the attack because he wanted to seal his deal with Iran, Obama threatened to shoot down Israeli jets before they could reach their targets in Iran using US Air Force planes stationed in Iraq. Former US diplomat Zbigniew Brzezinski, who enthusiastically campaigned for Obama in 2008, openly called on Obama to shoot down Israeli planes if they attacked Iran. “They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?” said the former national security advisor to former President Jimmy Carter. Following Obama’s threat, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was reportedly forced to abort the attack.
Obama was so satisfied that he had screwed the Israelis with his treachery that his minions smugly and openly referred to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “chickens**t.” One official is quoted in Atlantic magazine saying, “…Netanyahu is…scared to launch wars…He’s got no guts…” The official said the Obama administration no longer believes that Netanyahu would launch a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. “It’s too late for him to do anything…”
Given Trump’s open support of Israel it is possible that America will once again become Israel’s protector. That role may include assisting the Jews in attacking Iran if and when the Iranians near the breakout point as they sneak their way to nuclear weapons under Obama’s disastrous nuclear deal. Many prophecy watchers believe that the Israeli attack will fulfill the Prophecy of Elam.
A second perspective relates to the Psalm 83 prophecy. One of the most egregious disasters wrought by Obama’s debacle of a presidency is the damage to US Israeli relations. That may be about to change with news that President-elect Trump plans on moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem.
The embassy move is not a new idea. In 1995 the US Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act authorizing relocating the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem no later than May 31, 1999. The act also called for Jerusalem to remain an undivided city and for it to be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel pending final status talks in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.
The embassy move has been on hold because the Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement has failed to materialize. Obama’s hostility towards Israeli virtually eliminated any chance of such a move during his administration.
Moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem would hammer the last nail in the Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement coffin because it would effectively eliminate Palestinian claims to Jerusalem, and by extension their bogus claim to the Temple Mount. It is believed that the Arab Muslims surrounding Israel will be so incensed that they would plot to wipe Israel off the map as foretold in Psalm 83.
Remember that Psalm 83 is about a war of extermination by the Arab Muslims surrounding Israel. It is possible that blowback after an attack by Israel on Iran, especially if it leads to far-ranging radioactive contamination of the region from an attack on the Bushehr nuclear reactor, will be widespread and especially visceral among the Muslims surrounding Israel. If that anger is then aggravated by the US Embassy move it is likely that the Psalm 83 war of annihilation will take place.
The Psalm 83 prophecy is described as a plot where “many nations” (people groups) attack Israel and are defeated so utterly with God’s supernatural assistance to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) that they are likened to “chaff” or “dust” whirling in a “tempest” or “gale” (Psalm 83:13-17, Isaiah 17:12-14).
The key element of these prophecies is the makeup of the confederacy plotting to annihilate Israel. Until and when these groups conspire as one to attack the Jews this prophecy will remain unfulfilled. The nations described as being a part of this genocidal effort are those with a common border with Israel today. Reading Psalm 83:6-8 reveals language that is straight out of today’s headlines: “O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more.” With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you- the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot.” (Psalm 83:1-8).
The Palestinians of Hamas currently rule Gaza, whose ancient name was Philistia. Edom and the Ishmaelites were in land occupied by southern Jordan today while the territories of Moab and Ammon make up the rest of that country. The Hagrites were part of Aram, whose capitol was Damascus in modern Syria. Gebal, also called Byblos, and Tyre can still be found in present day Lebanon. The Amalekites lived in Israel’s southern desert and Philistia settled in Gaza on Israel’s southern border. Assyria would conquer Aram shortly after Psalm 83 was written by Asaph shortly after the end of King Solomon’s reign in about 900 BC. The “descendants of Lot” is another way of saying Moab and Ammon who were the sons of an incestuous union between Lot and his two daughters.
We know from the Psalm 83 prophecy that the plotters will reap the Lord’s wrath for seeking the destruction of Israel. Our Creator God promises to return curse for curse against those that harm His chosen people – the Jews. Genesis 12: 3: “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee…I will bless those that bless you and curse the one who curses you…On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.”
And in Zechariah 14:12: “And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.’
Obadiah 1:15 issues this scathing reprisal to them: “As you (Palestinians) have done, it shall be done to you”. The term “their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth” may describe the blast effects on a human body during a nuclear attack.
The prophecy of Zephaniah 2:3-5 warns Christians that when they see the Psalm 83 conflict they should ready themselves for the rapture. Zephaniah, one of the Minor Prophets, predicts a war that comes before the “Day of the Lord,” another name for the Tribulation. He appeals to the “meek of the earth,” those with faith in Christ Jesus, to understand that this war signals that the seven-year Tribulation Period draws near. “Seek the LORD, all you meek of the Earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the LORD’S anger” (Zephaniah 2:3).
One half of all people remaining behind after the rapture, including two thirds of the Jews, will die during the Seal, Trumpet and Bowl judgments of Tribulation. Zephaniah pleads with believers to do what it takes to be hidden from those events by getting ourselves in a proper relationship with Jesus. Only by being born again by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior will we be removed via the rapture before the onset of the horrors of the Tribulation.
In Daniel 2:21 we know that God “…deposes kings and raises up others.” The election of Donald Trump may signal that we are on the verge of pivotal prophetic events leading to our Blessed Hope in the rapture (Titus 2:13). As we watch the goings on in Washington, DC and the Middle East it is important to remember the content and specifics of prophecy. Look for fulfillment of the Prophecy of Elam in Jeremiah 49:34-39 during an attack by Israel on Iran. It is very likely to be followed by the Psalm 83 prophecy involving a confederacy of ten Muslim nations or people groups actively involved in trying to annihilate Israel. The prophecy of Zephaniah 2:3-5 warns believers that when we see the Psalm 83 conflict we should ready ourselves for the rapture.
