The Sade in "Sadeness" (not Sadness ... it's a play on words) is the Marquis de Sade, the man who gave us the word "sadism". The song itself is actually one part of a three part track called "Principles of Lust". The proper name of this part is "Sadeness-Part One". The other two parts are titled "Find Love" and "Sadeness-Reprise". The entire musical work—which runs more than 11 minutes—is about the conflict between sexuality and purity, betweeen virtue and vice.
The lyrics of Part One are:
***
Procedamus in pace
In nomine Christi, Amen
Cum angelis et pueris,
Fideles inveniamur
Attollite portas, principes, vestras
Et elevamini, portae aeternales
Et introibit rex gloriae
Qius est iste Rex glorie?
Sade, dis-moi,
Sade, donnes-moi
Procedamus in pace
In nomine Christi, Amen
Sade, dis-moi
Qu'est-ce que tu vas chercher?
Le Bien par le Mal
La Vertu par le Vice
Sade, dis-moi, Pourquoi l'evangile du Mal?
Quelle est ta religion, Ou sont tes fideles?
Si tu es contre Dieu, tu es contre l'Homme
Sade dit moi pourquoi le sang pour le plaisir ?
Le plaisir sans l'amour.
N'y a t'il plus de sentiment dans le culte de l'homme ?
Sade, es-tu diabolique ou divin?
Sade, dis-moi
Hosanna
Sade, donnes-moi
Hosanna
Sade, dis-moi
Hosanna
Sade, donnes-moi
Hosanna
In nomine Christi, Amen
The translation of the Latin and the French are as follows:
Let us go forth in peace
In the name of Christ, Amen.
With angels and children,
May we be found faithful.
Lift up your doors, O princes,
And be lifted up, O eternal gates
And the King of Glory shall enter in.
Who is this King of Glory?
Sade tell me
Sade give it to me
Let us proceed in peace
In the name of Christ, Amen
Sade tell me
what is it that you seek?
Good through evil?
Virtue through vice?
Sade, tell me why the Gospel of evil?
What is your religion? Where are your faithful?
If you are against God, you are against man
Sade tell me why blood for pleasure?
Pleasure without love?
Is there no longer feeling in the cult of man?
Sade are you diabolical or divine?
Sade tell me
Hosanna
Sade give it to me
Hosanna
Sade tell me
Hosanna
Sade give it to me
Hosanna
In the name of Christ, Amen

I hope this helps.
For the record Enigma is NOT a Christian duo. Even a casual examination of various lyrics shows they are clearly New Age, expressing aspects of Hinduism, Buddhism, and other pagan religions.

Thank you for that valuable translation, Matt. Since they're not Christian, why are they giving the appearance of Christian values? Is there a hidden agenda in other related songs?
Of course there is, sis. Take a look at the lyrics for their popular "Return to Innocence":
*****
That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence
Love - Devotion
Feeling - Emotion
Love - Devotion
Feeling - Emotion
Don't be afraid to be weak
Don't be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself
The return to innocence
If you want, then start to laugh
If you must, then start to cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny
Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence
That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence
Don't care what people say
Follow just your own way
Follow just your own way
Don't give up, don't give up
To return, to return to innocence.
If you want then laugh
If you must then cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny.
*****
Yep, just believe in destiny and you'll be alright.
How about the lyrics to Mea Culpa?
*****
Kyrie eleison
Christe eleison
Je ne dors plus
(The time has come)
Je te desire
(The time has come)
Prends moi, je suis a toi
Mea culpa
Je veux aller au bout des mes fantasmes
Je sais que c'est interdit
Je suis folle, je m'abandonne
Mea culpa
Kyrie eleison
Christe eleison
( From: MEA CULPA Lyrics - ENIGMA )
Je suis la, et ailleurs
Je n'ai plus rien
Je deviens folle, je m'abandonne
Mea culpa
Je ne dors plus
Je te desire
Prends-moi, je suis a toi
Kyrie eleison
Christe eleison
Je suis la, et ailleurs
Je veux tout
Quand tu veux, comme tu veux
Mea culpa
Kyrie eleison
The translation is:
Lord have mercy
christ have mercy
I am no longer sleeping
The time has come
I desire you
The time has come
Take me, I am yours
My sin
I want to go to the end of my fantasies
I know that this is forbidden
I am becoming crazy, I am abandoning myself
My sin
I am no longer sleeping
I desire you
Take me, I am yours.
Lord have mercy,
Christ have mercy
I am here, and there
I want everything
When you want, how you want
My sin
Lord have mercy

Enough said?

To Carol-ann, evil can be and often is very soothing and seductive. Thats a big part of how the deception works. Be careful out there.
I'd have to say that Meg's last paragraph is very sad, yet true. Take it straight from one who is just trying to get out of being hooked up in Satan's lies. It's a whole lot easier to get out of something when you first begin, than to get out of it when you're fully entrenched and you need to. Then it feels like it'll strangle you. I started with a very innocent looking, sounding book series. It started out fine, but attitudes picked up on in the book, grew until I would feel very hopeless too like the book characters. Months later, I'd become hopelessly derailed from following the Lord, with all the wrong kinds of attitudes that sprang as a result of reading the book that helped plant wrong attitudes in my heart. And all I have to say, is that I wish someone had smacked me over the head when I first started reading the book series. Well, He did, in fact. I heard a still small voice inside of me telling me that there was something wrong with what I was reading. But I didn't listen, and now wish I had've.
I'm not trying to say that there's something wrong with listening to the music, but if you hear a very still small voice that is nudging you not to listen, then don't ignore it like I did.![]()
