Madison, Ala., Bob Jones High School defensive lineman Marquez Pride took three official visits prior to signing with Western Kentucky University last week.

But the 6-foot-3, 265-pound Pride said it was easy to pick the Hilltoppers over Troy ( Naa naaa na na naaa ), Samford and others because of the “whole package” at WKU.

“The coaches all told me we are going to win and I believe them,” Pride said. “They have built an environment to win there and I want to be part of it.”

Pride ranked as only a two-star recruit by Rivals but was a member of the Alabama Class 6-A All-State team and was named the Huntsville Times Elite Football Defensive MVP. He had 78 tackles, including 12 sacks as a senior.

“I am strong at rushing the passer and getting to the quarterback a few times and dumping them on their heads,” Pride said. “I’ve been a defensive lineman since I came into high school and I really like it. I just need to get stronger.”

Pride has a brother, Terrence Pride, who is a sophomore at Alabama A&M.

Ok Mr. WKU, you're going to eat them words this year. You better dust off your "crow eatin'" recipe book!! Troy is gonna win the Sun Belt YET again!!!

We felt bad for winning 5 times straight so we took a year off, but come this year the kids gloves are coming off and Troy is gonna DOMINATE!!
