Madison, Ala., Bob Jones High School defensive lineman Marquez Pride took three official visits prior to signing with Western Kentucky University last week.
But the 6-foot-3, 265-pound Pride said it was easy to pick the Hilltoppers over Troy (Naa naaa na na naaa
), Samford and others because of the “whole package” at WKU.
“The coaches all told me we are going to win and I believe them,” Pride said. “They have built an environment to win there and I want to be part of it.”
Pride ranked as only a two-star recruit by Rivals but was a member of the Alabama Class 6-A All-State team and was named the Huntsville Times Elite Football Defensive MVP. He had 78 tackles, including 12 sacks as a senior.
“I am strong at rushing the passer and getting to the quarterback a few times and dumping them on their heads,” Pride said. “I’ve been a defensive lineman since I came into high school and I really like it. I just need to get stronger.”
Pride has a brother, Terrence Pride, who is a sophomore at Alabama A&M.
