Default "Deadly Intense heat wave to continues to bake From Kansas to DC"....

"Hot and hotter" forecast as heat wave bakes eastern U.S.

Here in southern Michigan we hit 102,with heat index at 116...we haven't had any real amount of rain in months, very little snow over the winter only hurts..We have been over 95 degrees for 2 weeks straight, over 25 people have been killed nationwide, its been oppresive !!..

Relentless heat was forecast for much of the eastern United States for a fourth straight day on Monday, with about 2.2 million customers without power after violent storms and soaring temperatures killed at least 15 people.

Power companies warned it could take several days to restore electricity completely in some areas as much of the United States sweltered in a record-breaking heat wave.

"Hot and hotter will continue to be the story from the plains to the Atlantic Coast for the next few days," the National Weather Service said.
Emergencies were declared in Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington because of damage from a rare "super derecho" storm packing hurricane-force winds across a 700-mile (1,100 kilometre) stretch from the Midwest to the Atlantic Ocean.

About 2.2 million homes and businesses from Illinois to New Jersey were still without power Monday morning, with the biggest concentration of outages in the Washington area.

    DAMAGE TO POWER GRIDS

Thunderstorms and high winds battered eastern North Carolina on Sunday afternoon, causing three more deaths on top of at least 12 caused by the deadly storms and heat in several states on Saturday.

Powerful storms that brought wind gusts of up to 90 mph on Sunday knocked out power to more than 200,000 Commonwealth Edison customers in northeastern Illinois. About 100,000 remained without power on Monday, the utility said.

Utilities in Ohio, Virginia and Maryland described damage to their power grids as catastrophic.

More than 2,000 heat records matched or broken
More than 2,000 temperature records have been matched or broken in the past week as a brutal heat wave baked much of the United States, and June saw more than 3,200 records topped, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said Monday.

From June 25 to July 1, some 2,171 record temperatures were either broken or matched, the NOAA said. For the 30 days of June, that number rose to 3,215.

Accuweather meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said the number of records broken was very unusual. He said that while some aspects of the heat wave are unknown, much of it is because of a lack of snow cover during the late winter on America's plains.
Instead of the sun's heat melting snow, it instead heated the ground, which in turn warmed the air. The increase in temperature even made crops grow ahead of schedule until now; Sosnowski said the lack of rainfall has stunted crops' growth.

Sosnowski added that while some areas are not unusually warm, namely New England and the Northwest, the center of the country will experience high temperatures for the next several weeks, possibly into August.
    This is "historic"..

WOW. That's amazing. I can't believe it's been so hot in Michigan!
I was worried about adjusting to the heat here in Texas. Don't seem
like it would have been any different if I'd stayed there.
