There are a few good combos out there. And often it is a matter of personal preference. I personally have liked Webroot Suite since I first came across it a few years ago. I have never had any virus or malware undetected by it. I specifically chose it because of the reviews back then that put it at the top of list in detection. In fact, those positive reviews continue. As recently as October PC Magazine wrote:
"The way Webroot handles protecting a clean system from malware attack is a bit different from most. Its heuristic analysis detects some threats the moment they load into memory. A program that makes it past this initial check will be watched closely. The moment Webroot's behavioral analysis recognizes a threat it wipes it out and rolls back all changes made by the program. After detection it runs a quick scan to clean up remaining traces. This unusual system definitely works. Webroot detected 100 percent of the sample threats and scored a perfect 10 of 10 points for overall malware blocking, rootkit blocking, and scareware blocking."
Can't improve on 100%! Of course, it is not free. But it is not that expensive either (less than $80 for the full suite and coverage for three computers.) and does not load your system down like some of the big names.

I checked mine and it's ok, thanks for the heads up![]()
I had Webroot back in 2008 or '09, and it drove me nuts with pop-ups wanting me to decide what to do about something it detected. Used to interrupt me all the time when I was trying to write... I got so frustrated that I purchased Norton 2 or 3 months after I bought Webroot, and I've been using Norton ever since. If they've stopped that nonsense though, with that 100% rating, I will probably switch when the time comes though.
You have to go into the Webroot control panel and tell it whether to ask you or whether to do certain things automatically. If "ask" is checked (which it may have been by default), then it will ask you every single time it has to do something!

The check is harmless and takes but a second to execute. If your PC/Laptop stop connecting on July9th, you'll be saying "I woulda, coulda and shoulda..."

This is an OUTSTANDING public service thread because, unfortunately for some, the threat is very real!![]()
I just heard from one of my DOIM IT guru's on the DNS Changer malware issue. According to him back in February there were about one million infected PCs in the US alone. Now that number is down to about 350-400k because their owners were proactive in cleaning the infections out of their machines. Of the total number of Fortune 500 companies, 94 had infected machines or routers in their local network. Three major US government agencies also found the DNS Changer malware on their commercial side network machines and routers.
Contrary to the majority of media reports, the FBI is not running the short-term fix servers, the ISC (Internet Systems Consortium) in Redwood, CA is operating it, and the server it is using as the current DNS Changer "safety net" is their DNS root server known commonly as "F-root." On July 9 the ISC will remove the DNS Changer "safety net" and if your machine has not been purged of the virus by then when you try to go online your machine will point to a DNS server which does not exist anymore and you can kiss internet connectivity goodbye.
Fair Warning - check your machine now.
Thanks everyone, I did and I'm clean![]()
Amazing love! How can it be that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
