Willie U.S. to Use Children to Test Anthrax Vaccine Stirs Debate

First it was the TSA and now this...

The Obama administration is wrestling with the thorny question of whether scientists should inject healthy children with the anthrax vaccine to see whether the shots would safely protect them against a bioterrorism attack.

The other option is to wait until an attack happens and then try to gather data from children whose parents agree to inoculate them in the face of an actual threat.

A key working group of federal advisers in September endorsed testing, sparking objections from those who consider that step unethical, unnecessary and dangerous. The National Biodefense Science Board (NBSB), which advises the federal government, is to meet Friday to vote on its working group’s recommendation.

And the joy we share as we tarry there,

Any parent who submits their children to this should have their children taken away from them for neglect. Also I read a story that the CDC now wants to innoculate boys 11-12 with the HPV vaccine because not enough girls have been vaccinated with it. This vaccine isn't safe on girls and now they want to innoculate boys? You really couldn't make this stuff up.

What about the 128 girls who have died because they got the “vaccine”??? How many boys will die also? For something that is imposable to get if you keep your pants on!

I hadn't heard about the deaths from the vaccine, but I have always thought exactly the same thing! If parents would actually be 'present' and taught abstinance, the vaccine would't need to be given to anyone. It's shocking just how little parents act like parents instead of 'pals'.

I knew about the deaths, but I didn't have a number to write so I didn't. Some other nations have had deaths from this vaccine and ill side effects and have banned the vaccine. Leave it to the US to plunge ahead with stupidity from a vaccine that hasn't even proven itself effective.

Trouble is that no one can say "keep your pants on". It just isn't in our educators language.

A few snippets from the latest update:

NTI: Global Security Newswire - Panel Urges Ethics Study of Testing Anthrax Vaccine on Minors

    Monday, Oct. 31, 2011

A key U.S. biodefense panel on Friday recommended holding off on testing the anthrax vaccine on minors until a separate study is first conducted on the moral implications of such activity, the Associated Press reported.
A key issue is whether parents would allow their children to participate in the trial. Some adults who have received the vaccine have experienced muscle soreness, headaches and tenderness near the site of the inoculation and, less frequently, severe allergic reactions.

Merck senior medical director John Grabenstein said he was supportive of having the facts on the vaccine's effect on children before there is a crisis situation, the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy reported.
(Merck, coincidentally, happens to be one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. *ahem* Vioxx scandal)

Board Chairwoman Patricia Quinlisk was the lone member to oppose the decision. "My background has influenced how I feel," said Quinlisk, an epidemiologist and microbiologist who works as medical chief for the Iowa Public Health Department. "I don't even know if a pre-event option is the appropriate response."

I'm sure these "scientists" have kids--I bet they're waiting in line for the experiments. Surely these "scientists" are so loving and concerned for us in the collective to risk their own children. Start juicin' 'em! Let us know how it turns out.
