Those things are pretty dangerous. They have very long tentacles, usually in the 30 foot range according to Wikipedia, and the sting is really nasty. Might want to reconsider beach plans for the near future if you had any...The Post and Courier of Charleston reported several of the jellyfish-like creatures have been spotted off the coast near Charleston. Officials have gotten reports on the animals from Folly Beach, the Isle of Palms and Dewees Island in the past week.There are several good photos at the bottom opf the Wiki page.

Wow, Meg, you had me thinking for a moment that a big battleship from Portugal had just showed up on a SC beach, until i read the thread.
