Default Germany: Ten die from E.coli-infected cucumbers

BBC News - Germany: Ten die from E.coli-infected cucumbers

The death toll in Germany from an outbreak of E.coli caused by infected cucumbers has risen to at least 10.

The cucumbers, believed to have been imported from Spain, were infected with a severe complication of E.coli called hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS).

Hundreds of people are said to have fallen sick.

Officials in the Czech Republic said the cucumbers may have been exported there, as well as to Austria, Hungary and Luxembourg.

The aggressive form of E.coli is known to cause kidney failure and affect the central nervous system.

Most of the cases have been in the area around Hamburg.

I don't like cucumbers, but my wife does, and she lives in Germany. Not near Hamburg, though.

I wonder if this was something that washing the cucumbers could have prevented? Or is the E-Coli inside the cucumbers?

That is what I was thinking. I wash all my vegetables from the shop thoroughly and peel what I can for this reason.

Unfortunately I'm too old and tired these days to have a full on big vegetable garden like in the past.

    It's a worry.

they will most likely trace it back to someone or something coming in contact with contaminated material that was not properly cleaned before cucumber came in contact with them...

They had the e-coli cucmber story in our local paper. The authorities think it was contaminated water. They are also concerned for Tomatoes and Lettuce grown in the same area.

I wonder who sabotaged the water supply?

The e-coli would have therefore been inside the vegetable. No amount of good hygiene practices would have prevented people from being infected by it.

I don't have the energy to get angry about this as I did in the past. I am just lifting it to the Lord. Satan is killing off people through enticing people to do evil in this world. God is greater than the Devil.

I pray for God to be merciful and not let anyone die in this world until they have had every opportunity to come to know the Gospel message, to know they need to repent and receive salvation given to us through the blood of His Son Jesus Christ. Amen

God is faithful, God is merciful, God has paid the ultimate price to redeem mankind. Praise God and Trust in Him, so not have fear of this world our time on this earth is in God's hands, not man's or the devil's.
