Default Hurricanes Going North This Year

This is interesting, there's a second hurricane headed up the Atlantic coast...

''Folks from the Carolinas northward through the Mid-Atlantic and New England need to be paying attention to Earl and the forecasts as they get updated through the week,'' Brennan said.

Darn! I thought this thread was about Miami losing its NFL team!

OK, here's your clue, if I post anything, it won't be about football.

God is "having some fun" with meteorologists in the U.S. They've been announcing a very active hurricane season like we haven't seen since 2005. And everything that has come out has fizzled out or "banked off" of our coasts doing very little damage. They keep trying to make a case for their El Nino/La Nina theories and trying to build up fear, but it's almost becoming comic. Personally, I don't think that Earl or Fiona are going to hit the East Coast (and definitely not the Gulf Coast). This is not to say that there won't be another storm later in the season that will put Katrina, Gustav, or Ike to shame, but I don't think that these are going to be them.

Anybody from Cape Hatteras going to respond to his opinion?

This hurricane appears to be heading for the Bay of Fundy (which has the world's highest natural tides).
So those of you from the Pine Tree State (Maine), and those of you fellow Canadians from New Brunswick & the Blue Nose Province, Nova Scotia? Batten down your hatches and pack your bags!

BTW, I met a Nova Scotian today who endured Hurricane Juan a few years ago when it hit Halifax, Nova Scotia.
He was busy with a chain-saw for days, clearing out fallen trees; and he had no electric power for
    3 weeks.

I have family in Md and friends in North Carolina. When I started this thread, the latest storm didn't look that dangerous. Do you really think it'll go as far up as Maine and Canada? Thats not real common, is it? I thought it was about set to wipe out NC -- again, maybe the barrier islands off Charleston SC like happened in the 80's. Used to be some nice beach scenes there, but since the last big storm, back in the late '90's when I visited there everyone said you were crazy to have a house on the islands any more.

I don't think ReadyToGo meant any harm either.

BTW, I'm a "she". And, I'm sorry that I didn't specify the Eastern Coast of the US. I wasn't talking about the Canadian east coast. (And I'm DEFINITELY not talking about the possibility of them EVER getting hurricanes! I know that they do.)

I was actually thinking of revising my opinion (which is what it always was--an opinion.) It might NOT turn but might very well head toward the Pennsylvania/Virginia/Maryland/D.C. area. I had forgotten about the so-called "peace talks" that would be taking place in D.C. right now. In the past, such U.S. efforts in meddling have brought very untimely weather to our country.

    I find that quite interesting
I read a very interesting statement by John McTernan-
-On this Thursday, Obama is set to kick off the latest round of meetings to divide the land of Israel. At the heart of these meetings will be to divide Jerusalem. This has been going on since October 1991 with President Bush Sr, and it is a totally failed policy. Right now, a category 4 hurricane is aimed at the East Coast. Hurricane Earl is set to hit or brush the coast on Thursday! If Obama is going to bully Israel, there is a great possibility that Earl will strike the mainland. The hurricane is like a loaded gun pointed directly at America. The LORD is now "locked and loaded" for judgment.
In addition, the stock market has been reeling, and it could see a big hit on Thursday or Friday. It is possible to see both the stock market shaken and a powerful hurricane strike America at the same time of these meetings.
    ?? dunno

Here's the latest photo, the story has the projected path, and it could potentially go right up the Chesapeake Bay if God decides to take aim. DC's kinda inland, but still, they're gonna have a rough weekend up there, as Buzz pointed out...

Evacuations as Hurricane Earl Approaches U.S. - NYTimes.com

That little opening at the top of the white projected path graphic is the Chesapeake Bay. If anyone knows anyone up around Norfolk, warn them to stay OFF the bridge tunnel, that bridge part is really high, and when its really windy, its really scary.

That's where the present storm track is aimed at.
A hurricane hitting Maine and the two Canadian provinces?

It's happened before.... with Hurricane Juan, which was still a Category 2 when it came inland
off the cold waters off Nova Scotia.
A category 2, as the fellow from Halifax told me, could still do a lot of damage: power outages
for weeks, alot of trees uprooted, boats and houses destroyed.
I'd have my bags packed before it hit.

If that beast goes up the Bay, its gonna tear things up in a major way. That would be highly unusual, but... I don't guess its going to be a Katrina type disaster, what it'll probably do is run up the coast and ensure everyone has plenty of firewood for this winter... And of course the beachfront property is in serious jeopardy...

I HATE going over that bridge even in calm weather. I expect they'll shut the Chesapeake Bay Bridge down totally before the hurricane goes over. I remember once when we went across that bridge with bikes strapped to the back of the car...the wind was blowing like crazy and we had to stop several times going across just to tighten down the bikes to keep them from being blown off the car. Then when we stopped, the wind was so fierce when we got out of the car...I don't think my little kid self could stand it. I just crawled right back into the car! And that was on a sunny day with no storm in sight too!

I didn't know you were familiar with that area. I crossed the bridge tunnel on the southern tip of the Bay in 2007 in a storm, and to this day I thank God I didn't know how strong the wind really was until I was half way across! nearly blew me off my feet, and I was driving my stubby little Chevy that hydroplanes in mud puddles!

You're talking about the Bay Bridge on the northern end, aren't you?

Not the bay bridge on the Maryland side but the one that goes straight across to the little island Chincoteague. It's the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

I would NOT, for any reason, "wish" a hurricane off on anyone else. That is for sure. But, the idea of hurricanes going up the east coast this year instead of coming into the gulf is a relief that many in my neck of the woods welcomes with a bitter sweetness. 5 years since Katrina and there's still areas that haven't come back completely; some places not at all.

Uh, yeah...I happen to live near the coast in New England, which is RIGHT IN THE PATH OF THIS HURRICANE, not to mention some of us don't have the luxury of transportation or "going somewhere else".

So, thanks for your compassion. <_< I'll be sure to remember it when our roof goes airborne and my cat is floating past us on a piece of flotsam....
