Default Deepwater Horizon: The Roster of the Dead

Jason Anderson, toolpusher, 35, Midfield, Texas *

Dale Burkeen, crane operator, 37, Philadelphia, Mississippi *

Donald Clark, assistant driller, 49, Newellton, Louisiana *

Stephen Curtis, assistant driller, 39, Georgetown, Louisiana *

Gordon Jones, drilling fluids specialist, 28, Baton Rouge, Louisiana *

Wyatt Kemp, derrickhand, 27, Jonesville, Louisiana *

Karl Kleppinger Jr., floorhand, 38, Natchez, Mississippi *

Blair Manuel, senior drilling fluids specialist, 56, Gonzales, Louisiana *

Dewey Revette, driller, 48, State Line, Mississippi *

Shane Roshto, floorhand, 22, Liberty, Mississippi *

Adam Weise, floorhand, 24, Yorktown, Texas

These are the names, positions, ages and hometowns of the 11 men who died on the Deepwater Horizon when the rig exploded on April 20th. The names with asterisks after them are those that left behind wives and children.

These men paid with their lives, while 15 others were injured in the blast, not to mention the untold thousands whose livelihoods are now RUINED due to the contaminated Gulf Coast waters. Regardless of whatever monies the surviving families receive from the lawsuits to come, they have been stripped of husbands, fathers, brothers and sons.

THIS IS THE PRICE OF GREED AND DISREGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE.

I would like to ask everyone here at RF to pray for the families of these men; they have suffered a grievous loss, and will be doubly affected in the times to come. Please pray for their welfare and their salvation.

    Thanks,

    -Robert

Amen Robert, thanks for this thread. I never knew the names until I came across this; it really does put an emphasis on the real cost of this disaster.

Yeah, and I would dearly love to go to BP's HQ with 100,000 copies of this list and wallpaper their HQ with it. But somehow, i don't think they care...

It also underscores the greed of the media in spending their time and energy reporting how terrible this whole situation is and never once naming those who lost their lives. BP isn't the only entity that doesn't care.

Yeah, and that irks me as well.

As long as those who died in this tragedy remain ignored, I will continue to bump this topic

Sherri Revette cuts through thick pines, guiding the four-wheeler down dirt and mud trails to her tranquil spot, a sandbar along the Chickasawhay River about a mile behind her home in the backwoods of Mississippi.

She comes here every day, first thing in the morning or late in the evening, longing for her husband Dewey, chief driller on Deepwater Horizon.

When the wind whips around the river bend, it's as if he has wrapped his arms around her. "You can feel him," she says.

This was supposed to be their summer of fun. Married 26 years, the couple had reached that sweet spot in life, with their daughters grown and independent -- yet close by. Sherri and Dewey planned to take a fishing trip to Mobile Bay after his "hitch" ended on the rig. They would spend time relaxing with family at their deer cabin in Alabama, too.

Dewey was that kind of guy: family man, fisherman, deer hunter. He adored his girls, Andrea and Alicia. And he never watched a movie his entire life -- too many largemouth bass to catch. His routine every morning was to hop on his jacked-up four-wheeler and take the same path Sherri is riding down.

At sea on the rig, he'd call home and ask, "Have you been through the woods yet today?"

He couldn't wait to get there himself. His three-week stint on Deepwater Horizon was to end at 11:30 p.m. April 20. Sherri missed his phone call that morning. All day, she hoped he would try again. She was eager to see him. Around midnight, she lay in bed, still hoping the phone would ring. A call came the next morning, at 5:15.

"You need to watch the news," her sister-in-law said.

The Deepwater Horizon had exploded just before 10 p.m., an hour-and-a-half before Dewey's hitch was to end.

Now, Sherri's four-wheeler whines as it comes to the end of the trail, which opens to a sandbar as white as the famous beaches of Destin, Florida.

Sherri came to this spot when the Coast Guard called off its search for the 11 missing rig workers. She cussed. She screamed. She tossed sticks, logs and other debris -- anything she could get her hands on -- into the river.

"I tell you what, I felt 98 percent better by the time I got back up."

Dewey's youngest daughter, 18-year-old Alicia, scampers along the sand with her cousin. They pause to draw a message with their hands. "We miss you," it says.

Thanks Adrian! This puts faces to the names, and the grief that the families are enduring because of this.

Here we are, November 23rd of 2010; most of the nation and the world has forgotten these faces and names. BP could care less, and the coast is still reeling from the damage caused by the oil.

    But God has NOT forgotten.

    Smile, BP; God saw you.

    July 31st, 2011.

It's been more than a year since the Deepwater Horizon spill. It's been a while since I bumped this, but I still feel these men who died as well as their families should not be forgotten.

The coasts will be clean before the survivors of the families will stop dealing with their losses. Lord Jesus be with the survivors.

Thanks Robert....even after all this time, I never heard any of the victims' names. All that loss and devastation the explosion, and resultant spill caused, yet BP closed that fiscal year not only in the black, but with actual profits.

What a heartbreaking story. I don't really remember any tributes or concern for the families that lost a loved one out on the rig. All the concern was geared toward the money being lost and PETA's concern for wildlife. Granted there was so much damage to wildlife and the coast was wrecked, but the coast has been cleaned up, the wildlife has been protected...those families still do not have their loved ones back home and they never will. I do not know what BP has done for these families. They could all have million dollar settlements, but no amount of money will heal the wounds caused by that kind of a loss. I pray that the families affected by this are healing with the comfort of the Lord.

The fact that with all the news I very rarely heard about the cost in human lives associated with this disaster. I feel for the families, and I'm praying fo them too. I do remember talking to some people on the coast in LA and MS and the most they ever talked about was the environmental impact. Not that oil in the water isn't bad for people. Only human beings could be so carless with God's creation, and the people in it.
