Since no one has answered yet, I thought I'd weigh in, but truth is, I have absolutely no idea. Somebody with more whiskers will chime in soon.

How prophetic....the Longest Whiskers on RF at your service!
You can store a pic in your album, but that fills up fast. I switched to hotlinking images by storing my pics in a photobucket account and pasting the direct links to them into the Image popup (click "Image" in the menu when you post, or when you edit your signature).
1. Click "image" in the post toolbar
2. Click on "from URL"
3. Un-check "Retrieve remote file and reference locally"
4. Paste link
5. Click "OK"

I also noticed under what you can and can't do for a signature, it says I cannot upload images.
