In an event that could prove to be significant as it concerns Bible prophecy, it is being reported that Syria is moving it's stockpiles of WMD out of storage. The move by the Syrian authorities is being closely monitored by Israel as it is suspected that the weapons might be on the move as Assad contemplates a suicidal strike on Israel or there's always the chance that he could hand them off to Hezbollah and other terrorist groups to use. The Israel National News website is reporting:

Syria has begun moving parts of its vast arsenal of chemical weapons out of storage facilities, U.S. officials told the Wall Street Journal. The country has vast undeclared stockpiles of sarin nerve agent, mustard gas and cyanide, according to the report. American officials have different opinions regarding the logic behind the decision to move the chemical weapons out of storage

The article also notes that as Assad is losing ground on the fight with the rebels, the WMD could be simply being moved to another "safer" location. It is also believed that Assad could even unleash these weapons on his own people. This is very disturbing news as it is highly unlikely that Assad will go down without a fight despite calls by the international community for his ouster. The INN article goes on to explain possible scenarios of the WMD:

"Some U.S. officials fear Damascus intends to use the weapons against the rebels or civilians, potentially as part of a targeted ethnic cleansing campaign," writes the Journal. Others said strongman Bashar Assad "may be trying to safeguard the material from his opponents or to complicate Western powers' efforts to track the weapons."

Another opinion was that Assad is moving the weapons as a feint, "hoping the threat of a chemical attack could drive Sunnis thought to be sympathetic to the rebels from their homes." Yet another assessment is that the move is connecte with a plan Assad has, to create an enclave controlled and populated only by his Alawite minority sect. "This could set the precedent of WMD [weapons of mass destruction] being used under our watch," a U.S. official said. "This is incredibly dangerous to our national security."

As we can see these movement of these WMD is a very large concern for the region depending on why they are being moved. And of course time will only tell why these weapons are being moved around. But even so, watchers of Bible prophecy have a reason to stop and pause as the Bible is clear in Isaiah 17 that one day Damascus will be a heap of ruins and cease to be a city anymore. This prophetic passage suggests that something serious happens that causes the fulfillment of the Isaiah 17 prophecy. We know from previous Rapture Reports, that Israel has warned Syria that they would destroy Damascus if they launched a chemical or biological weapons attack on them. This to me is a serious possibility that we can't ignore. We verily could be on the cusp of seeing a major Bible prophecy event being fulfilled especially as reports continue to surface that Assad is losing ground to the rebels.

Syria for their part denies the movement of WMD around but as the rebels have shown repeatedly that they are able to launch surprise attacks in Damascus on a continued basis. This would seem to me to give more credibility that these WMD are about to be used but as noted before only time will tell. And as the Bible warns us, that as we see these things begin to take place, to look up for our redemption is drawing nigh. Folks, the final hours of this age are upon us, constant chaos in the Middle East points to something major happening soon. As the nuclear talks with Iran have come to a stand still, it is almost like we are at the calm before the storm. Keep looking up my friends, just when the world least expects it, the rapture will happen and all Hell will break loose. Keep watching, things are very likely to go downhill pretty fast if they do. If you blink, you could miss something!

If he uses these weapons on his people then I cannot imagine the world standing silently and not acting. Russian special forces have landed at Tartus. They could be there to protect Russian civilians or they could be a force multiplier to help the Syrian army withstand the increasingly effective FSA. But if chem/bio weapons are used I think the entire region becomes MUCH more dangerous, overnight. Israel may even consider a pre-emptive strike. The entire world, including the secular portion, is tingling like a live wire at the changes coming in this year. Everyone knows that something is coming yet they seem doggedly determined not to allow it to break them from their chosen paths. I don't know if it's fear , denial or something more sinister but I pray that when the storm finally breaks it will bring untold millions to their knees in prayer.

FWIW.... I'm not sure if this is an established fact.

The first thing to note is that they are not Russian 'special forces' (i.e. Speznaz), they are regular Russian naval infantry (i.e. marines). There is also no word that these Russian marines have actually disembarked from their watercraft onto the single small pier at Port Tartus which Russia considers to be a naval base.

Secondly, Russia wants to keep their single small pier at Port Tartus, so they will not lift a finger against the Syrian Sunni population, nor will they assist the Al-Assad regime in any manner whatsoever (weapons, etc).

Thirdly, It is also highly unlikely that they have made this deployment with a full compliment of protective WMD gear - Port Tartus lies in the heart of the Alawite region of Syria which is the last place Al-Assad regime would bombard with biological or chemical weapons.

I don't see him using them against his own people. That would gain him nothing but a death sentence and there would be nowhere to run or hide. But I could see him using them against Israel in an attempt to gain the adoration, sympathy and support of the greater Arab world.

I agree.

It feels like the WMD are being used as a No-Pest-NATO-Strip. Essentially Assad is telling NATO, you really don't want to make me use these do you?

I also believe that Assad is trying to protect the WMD from falling into Sunni-rebel hands.

My 2 cents says that:

1) Somehow a NATO country will attack Assad due to additional Sunni massacres (Turkey???)
2) Assad will then keep his promises and missile bomb Tel Aviv with WMD in retaliation.
3) Israel will retaliate and wipe out Damascus
4) Surrounding Arab nations who scorn Israel will join in.

Obviously you have much more information than I but I have to question the statement that they will not assist the Assad regime with weapons. I have read multiple accounts that arms shipments to Syria have been ongoing so I'm a bit confused on that issue. And to be clear, I never imagined that said Russians figured to be attacked by WMD, only that they might be there to help the Syrian army. The reasons for the WMD being moved could be simply to make them safer or to confuse the west about exactly where they all are as a defensive measure in case NATO tried to deploy in some way to secure them. BTW - how likely do you imagine such a scenario to be? Do you see NATO actually sending in ground forces to secure these known sites?

As well you should.

Do you think the Russian's would be able to keep their small single pier in Tartus when the Sunni population (who are guanteed victors in this civil war) knows that Russian-provided weapons are what is killing them wholesale? Think long and hard on this one.

The Sunni-Shi'a/Alawite Islamic schism is Grand Canyon deep and wide, they have been incessantly murdering each other for about 1,300 years.
