My apologies Walter; it's humor used for a certain effect. In this case, to point that we can become too focused on the AC and FUD.
I have no doubt that there will be a point in the Tribulation where the AC will force people to use a monetary system based on a cashless unit carried electronically. But the problem I have with all of this is the fact that this does not transpire until Revelation 13; up until that point, scripture does not make any mention of it at all, let alone being mandated. When the Beast rises to full power at the midpoint of the Tribulation, that is when the system is fully implemented.
Now, that it exists but isn't mandated until then is of course not just possible, but also likely. But the problem is that when we focus on that issue or anything else in the Tribulation, we forget that we are living in the here and now. People today have problems right now, have worries and concerns right now, and are facing challenges right now. If it appears that I am unconcerned about the Tribulation, a good majority of the articles I have written are about the coming end times; that includes a 13 chapter study on the Tribulation itself in Revelation. Scripture gives descriptions of the Trib for a reason: so that those in those times will know what to expect.
But what the Lord is NOT trying to do is scare people into salvation with "get saved or
else". And I know the verses that many use to support the idea of "fear evangelism":
"And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh." (Jude 1:22-23, NASB, emphasis mine)
Taken out of context, this can taken as "using fear" to save a person. But if we read it in context:
"But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, that they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh." (Jude 1:17-23, NASB, emphasis mine)
What Jude is telling us here is to have mercy but to keep ourselves from falling into the same sin the person we are trying to reach has fallen into. Paul's writings support this:
"Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another. For each one will bear his own load." (Galatians 6:1-5, NASB, emphasis mine)
There is a difference between warning people about what is to come and all-out paranoia, and that is where FUD crosses the line. Fear, Uncertainty and Doom have done more to destroy people than it ever might have done to "scare" them into accepting the Gospel. And if someone does get saved just to avoid hell and the Tribulation, that is called
fire insurance. They aren't desiring to serve the Lord and leave their sin, but to avoid punishment and escape the Tribulation.
Yes, God isn't willing that
any should perish; scripture speaks this very clearly. But scripture also tells us that the problem is
sin, and if someone wants salvation just to avoid the Trib, then the issue of sin has not been dealt with. Christ didn't die on the cross to save us from the Tribulation; as a point of fact, the Tribulation will see a great harvest of souls. And at the risk of sounding heretical (please bear with me on this one folks), Christ didn't even die to save us from
hell; hell was originally created for Satan and his angels, not man. Man ended up being destined for hell
when he sinned against the Lord.
Christ died to save us from
sin.
All of that said, I have seen up close and personally what FUD can do to destroy a person. I used to be what many would call a "conspiracy nut". I was very much into the whole FUD issue and "knew" about the Opus Dei, the Illuminati, the Trilateral Commission, the Jesuits, Bildeburgers, FEMA, the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations), the Rothchilds, Area 51, 9/11 "Truther" conspiracies (basically, that 9/11 was an "inside job", according to the "truthers").
And I lost a friend,
literally, to FUD.
I had a friend who was told that "God hated him" and that "he could not be saved" because he was homosexual. So much FUD was thrown at him that he ended up being driven away from any hope and deeper and deeper into a vile, shadowy world. I tried to reach out to him, but by the point I could get in touch with him, he was so far gone he was not even returning phone calls to anyone.
He took his own life in July, 2008. He was 30 years old.
After talking to a trusted friend who knew about conspiracies, what FUD was and how poisonous it really is, I fully realized how devastating it can be, and what fear can do to a person. It destabilizes and doesn't do
a thing to
save anyone; the more scared people get, the more they are going to panic. Eventually, panic becomes replaced with depression and despair, and people sink into a quagmire from which there is no way out.
This is why we cannot witness with FUD: fear cannot reach a person in the way we think it should. We are bombarding them with things that affect their
mind, when the problem is their
heart. Scripture says:
"The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds" (Jeremiah 17:9-10, NASB, emphasis mine)
"Peter said to Him, “Explain the parable to us.” Jesus said, “Are you still lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.”" (Matthew 15:-15-20, NASB, emphasis mine)
FUD doesn't reach the heart; it affects the mind and clouds a person's judgment, faculties and emotions. It isn't a fear of the Lord, but a fear of the consequences of this world that happens, and the person doesn't even think about the Lord Jesus. Instead, they panic about their own situation and the mindset of doom and despair clouds their thinking utterly. This is why I stand against FUD, and why I use the humor that I do; it's not aimed at belittling anyone or insulting a person. Rather, it's to illustrate through humor the point I'm trying to make.
