I do believe that there's a lot of fear mongering out there, and I'm skeptical as to the motives of many who do so. I'm sure that some do so out of a real concern, but others I believe enjoy the attention, and many are profiting from it. Most of the websites that are warning are also selling. Some of the alarm ringing may also be used for the purpose of creating civil unrest and result in the enacting of more controls, there's a conspiracy theory for you.
After spending a great deal of time over the years looking into what may be going on behind the scenes, what conspiracies may exist and where we may be headed, both as a nation and world, I've, for the most part, stopped being consumed by it. Why? I don't feel it agrees with what I'm taught in our Bible.
2 Timothy 1:7
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
Romans 8:35-39
35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Philippians 4:8
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
In these last days what should be most important is knowing Christ. Consider the words of Andrew Murray-
We need to be good stewards of all that God has given us including our time. I know that when I was "researching" the conspiracies, world events, following the news closely, just trying to figure out what was going on in the world, trying to get to the truth, that I did so at the neglect of the truth of God's word, in the reading of and meditating on it. I also neglected my walk and fellowship with my creator. Today, I would rather spend my time knowing Christ than trying to know who is digging a ditch for me to fall into. What profit does this knowledge have for us anyway? Can we effect change and thwart the schemes of evil men, through knowledge? Through the courts or politics?
Do we face times of great sorrow? Yes, we already do. How can we know that we'll be spared from great persecution by the rapture? We don't. There are many across the globe who have already been persecuted for and even died for their faith. It's going on as we breathe. Are we to believe that America is immune? There are many who haven't, by the rapture, been saved from persecution, why should we then believe with confidence that the rapture will save us from persecution? It will save multitudes from the great tribulation, but that doesn't mean that many more believers will not suffer and die before the rapture takes place. My personal belief is that while we have our eyes open to what's going on around us, our greatest strength when we face our greatest trials will be in our knowing Christ, and when I say that I mean that we need to know Him with a great closeness. We should not be content in knowing that we've received Him as Savior, but we should continually draw closer to Him. It's in Him that we'll find our strength for today and the days ahead.
We need the same boldness and walk that the apostles had. Many of them were martyred and we should be willing to take that same position. What will give us that strength, will be our walk and intimacy with Jesus Christ.
In these last days, I'll focus on knowing Christ more and serving Him, on counting my blessings, enjoying my family, thinking on more eternal matters. I won't let Satan or his army defeat or cripple me with fear. Man can humiliate, torture, and kill the temporal but they can't harm that which is eternal. We must, for our own sanity, have that understanding.
In conclusion, while I'll still read post threads such as this one and consider our future here, I believe that our time here is best spent in knowing, walking and talking with Jesus Christ, serving Him, sharing the Gospel, enjoying our families, the blessings the we now have, and the promise of a future that is all that God intends it to be. It will be glorious.
