Default Hippies head for Noah’s Ark: Queue here for rescue aboard alien spaceship

A mountain looming over a French commune with a population of just 200 is being touted as a modern Noah's Ark when doomsday arrives – supposedly less than nine months from now.

A rapidly increasing stream of New Age believers – or esoterics, as locals call them – have descended in their camper van-loads on the usually picturesque and tranquil Pyrenean village of Bugarach. They believe that when apocalypse strikes on 21 December this year, the aliens waiting in their spacecraft inside Pic de Bugarach will save all the humans near by and beam them off to the next age.

As the cataclysmic date – which, according to eschatological beliefs and predicted astrological alignments, concludes a 5,125-year cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar – nears, the goings-on around the peak have become more bizarre and ritualistic.

This is the atheists' Harold Camping moment! And it'll have the same result.

Hope they don't forget the soap (although given they're hippies, I'm sure that's on the very low priority list).

I was thinking much the same thing along with wondering what they're going to do on Dec 22. Wishing those folks a happy 2013 is liable to garner some dirty looks too.

I know were all making jokes and usually i'm the first to do the same.. but i can't help but feel so unbelievably sad for these people. They're lost and blind. I can only imagine the pain God himself feels in regards to people like these (which is only becoming more and more popular), who reject the only way to salvation.

It's getting really depressing for me to keep seeing stories like these in the news all the time.. and a familiar theme is rejecting Jesus. I know it was prophecised to happen, but it doesn't make it easy.

I know how you feel as I too get depressed to the point where I avoid the tv as much as possible, and don't take the paper. There are times that I also avoid the internet. However, it is important, now more than ever before, to be sharing the gospel to the lost. Perhaps we might only help 1, but then who knows how many down the line from that 1 person, could be saved?

I understand how you feel. I'm one of the first to make a joke, or laugh at others' jokes, about people that are like Jimmy Carter or Ahmadinejad, because they both seem so outrageous. I've also prayed for many of these people that are lost and are not likely to come to Jesus Christ for salvation. It is very sad to realize what kind of destiny that many people are going to have, because they reject the unchanging word of God. For some of the people that I personally know, it seems to have more to do with rebellion than anything else. They want a user-friendly God who will accept whatever they want to do. They don't seem to understand that God cannot accept sin, because it destroys everything that is good.

I'm right there with you. I'm more of a "straight shooter" and i don't try to avoid things. But like i said, it's hard. It wasn't until recent that i realized the extent and magnitude of the hatred a lot of people have for christianity. Your 100% right - we need to share the gospel. Many will reject it, many will continue to think it's a fairy tale, many will think you and i are crazy. But if just one person can be saved because of my witnessing to them (obviously it's not me saving them, it's God doing all the work, but you get what i'm saying), then any amount of effort that we go through is worth it.

I guess i don't avoid things because i try to keep myself educated and don't want to be blind as to the full extent of anti-christianity going on (and currently i have a lot of free time). I don't blame you for avoiding the tv and paper tho because i know it grieves you as much as it grieves me. But God will keep me strong, as he will keep you strong.

    God Bless.

I understand what you're saying and the blindness hurts--but honestly, joking sometimes keeps me from crying. Seriously.
