Is the church ready for an American Pope?

In just a decade, Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York City, has risen from a local bishop to becoming a prince of the Catholic Church. He returned from Rome after receiving his cardinal's red hat and ring, like a rock star; a bevy of cameras and lights in tow.

Worldwide buzz around the newly minted Cardinal Dolan is that with his popularity, political savvy, and passion for the church, the question is being raised as to whether he could be the first American pope.

But what got my attention was this......
This guy is a rock star in any room he walks into. He exudes charisma, it's almost as if its charisma on steroids

Interesting, could this be a sign of what or who is to come, I wonder!

it is interesting that he might be the next pope and possibly the false prophet but this is nothing different than how Obama went from a no-one to president of the US is < 4 years

Not to spoil anyone's fun, but some popes have served 20 or more years. Even some older ones served 10 or more....it could still be awhile, but I'll be looking up in the mean time.

You mean like an official position? that is a whole different ballgame I would think. I think it would depend on just how much Santorum (or any catholic president) really believes the tenets of their religion....Santorum, or anyone else, could believe in the mainstream stuff (thou shall not kill, homosexuality is a sin, do not steal, etc) but not have complete belief in the pope as Christ's vicar on earth.

The answer is found in Revelation 13:1-10. The first beast rises up out of the sea - meaning from among the gentile nations. From Israel's perspective the sea (Mediterranean Sea) is a great expanse to the WEST. Notice the Greek word used is thērion meaning a bestial man. This is the antichrist and the use of the word thērion differentiates him from the dragon (Satan) who gives him great power and authority. This bestial man rises with 7 heads and 10 horns and his kingdom (revived Roman Empire) contains the distinctive prophetic attributes of (respectively) Alexander's Greek Empire (body of a Leopard), the Persian Empire (feet of a bear) and the Babylonian Empire (mouth of a lion).

Given the current geo-political realities of the Middle East, it is clear from this passage of verses that the geo-political realities of the world at that time will be vastly different. This is prophetic proof that islam will no longer dominate the Middle East, and that the beast empire will encompass the current islamic dominated countries of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran - all the land previously occupied by the empires of ancient Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome. This is a tremendous revelation in and of itself that we should be mindful of today.

Then in Revelation 13:11-17 the second (thērion) beast rises from the earth. The Greek word used here is gē meaning from somewhere on the earth. This man is distinct from the first beast, he has two horns signifying two bases of power, most probably religious and political. Also described by John as an arnion meaning a little lamb he is gentle in his demeanor as opposed to the bestial man Antichrist. This is the False Prophet. His key actions are then described and we would do well to pay close attention to them if only because because many attribute these actions to the Antichrist, but that is not true according to John the Revelator. These actions are those within the power given to the False Prophet.

I think the "a small people" refers to an elite, or a clique, a relatively small number of people who assist in establishing his base of power. This is, historically, also how Antiochus IV Epiphanes usurped Seleucia and the rest of the Seleucid Empire in his rise to absolute, virtually deified power. It was Rome who stopped him dead in his tracks and then subsequentially took his entire empire west of Parthia, which, incidentially, is the point at which Rome took on the prophetic mantle of "Babylon".

I would speculate that the coming ME wars will break the back of Islam. I'm certain there are many who call themselves Muslim but would leave it in a heartbeat if not for fear of being killed for doing so. I'm also certain there are a fair number of "luke-warm Muslims" who will pick and choose some nicey-nice stuff from the Koran and ignore the bloody or Jihad parts. (Similar to what certain so-called Christians are currently doing with the Bible.) Either way this will leave them ripe to be absorbed into a one-world religion.

As for the OP, if these are indeed the last days then the False Prophet is walking around somewhere out there. Could be most anybody and probably he himself is unaware of it.

Were the Romans an numerically inferior nation when they rose to power? I'm thinking that "the people of the prince to come", that destroyed the temple, being Romans, would seem to indicate a Roman a-c. Roman in the ethnic sense, not merely the citizenship. I'm not clear on the ethnic make-up of modern Italy, since they were invaded and colonised with so many barbarians over the years. Is it possible to recognise a pure Roman these days?

Yes, I agree, he comes from a specific nation, as indicated by the Hebrew word goy gowy which is masculine singular. Also in Daniel 11:21 the direct reference is to his estate Hebrew: ken. Given that Daniel 11 refers to both the Macedonian-Greek estate of Antiochus IV Epiphanes (who was the forerunner antichrist) then the contiuation of this same estate, then it is logical to believe the coming Antichrist comes from this stock of Goy in the West. I do believe he is a modern-day descendent of ancient Javan just as Antiochus IV Epiphanes was previously.

It was no accident that Roman Legio V Macedonica was among the legions which fulfilled the prophecy of Daniel 9:26.
