The Rapture/Resurrection of Believers
1 Thess 4:13-18, 1 Cor. 15:51-57
"But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words." 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
"Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-- in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?" The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:51-57
1)
It is my understanding that Jesus will return to earth for His Church? Yes John 14:1-3
"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:1-3
2)
All born again Christians are the Church? Yes. John 3:2-3; Acts 2:47
"This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."" John 3:2-3
"...praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." Acts 2:47
3)
Is that when the tribulation period begins? The tribulation is a seven year period (Daniels 70th week of years) that begins after or very soon after, Christ takes us to heaven via the Rapture. We believe it is Pre-Tribulation; that is where the term Pre-tribulationist comes from, see Dan. 9:24-27; Mt. 24:1ff, Jer. 30:7, and many others. Again it begins after the Church is taken to heaven at Christ’s call.
4)
Will people be born again during the tribulation? Yes. But they will have to endure it with their parents. Hopefully the parents will be saved during that period. If the Child dies he/she will go to heaven. We do not believe in purgatory or limbo as Catholicism teaches or has taught. Neither do we believe that Baptism saves you. Baptism happens in Scripture after one believes in Christ as Lord and Savior. Acts 16:30-33,
"And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. Acts 16:30-33
5)
When does the rapture happen? To answer that question there are several things to look at. But most importantly we believe that God does not desire His children to endure His wrath to be revealed during the tribulation. So we believe it occurs before the tribulation at some imminent point in time.
"and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come." 1 Thessalonians 1:10
"For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ," 1 Thessalonians 5:9
"Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth." Revelation 3:10
"Alas! For that day is great, So that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob's trouble, But he shall be saved out of it. Jeremiah 30:7 (Jacob is God’s name for Israel) Israel is NOT the church. The tribulation is the appointed time for God to bring about the 70th week of Daniel 9:24-27. The first 69 weeks have occurred culminating with the crucifixion of Christ, The 70th is still ahead, again reserved for Israel to give them a last chance to turn to the Messiah Christ Jesus. During that period many will be saved.
"Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, "Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?" And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." Revelation 7:13-17
