Presently there are several that could "fit" the limited requirements we know of for the False Prophet. It should be obvious that the F.P. will be one that is slowly becoming a great leader, and that his skills and fame will grow, which will result in his being "adopted" as a great leader. (This is one of the requirements for the F.P.)
In today's time, not only could the Pope fill that role, but also there are several religious leaders that could fill that role. Certainly the obvious route is most accessible to the Pope, (because he has privileges of the office he holds to go and come, praise and honor, confront and in so many more venues and places than many other respected international personalities, but the reasons given seem to me to be
unfair when these are acts of men that honor the Pope in such a way.
Yes, I am sure he enjoys the "perks and privileges" of the office he holds, but these are the workings of man, not from Christ and/or
God.
All denominations including the Catholic, are having severe internal problems, and at present I see no religious leader standing above
the crowd. He is looked upon and viewed as a great leader, and in respect, he is the leader of the Catholic Church.
However, that office was formed by man, using scripture to support their practice of providing leadership, but the homage and
honor given him is no different than that we give our President, or Prime Minister, Secretary of State, especially when they are adept
at solving problems. I am sure that at one time or another, W. Churchill or F. D. Roosevelt could have in some peoples view fit the same role.
Of, course, they were not, and many do not even want to think of such a possibility, including myself, but please don't fail to include all
the requirements for the office other than the selected few.
