In an attempt to put more pressure on Israel and rally the world around an anticipated declaration of independence, it is being reported that Palestinian Authority Prime Minster Salam Fayyad said that the Palestinians were ready for statehood. According to an article in the Jerusalem Post Fayyad is reported as saying:
According to the article:Palestinian Authority Prime Minster Salam Fayyad said on Tuesday he is confident his government will have the institutional framework in place by the end of the summer necessary to win global support for an independent Palestinian state.
“It is our goal and our expectation that as a result of what we are doing – getting ready for statehood, developing institutions that delivery services competently and [developing] core values – that our state of Palestine will be founded,” Fayyad said. “I am very happy to tell you that in many areas of governance we are already there.”
These comments and declarations are disturbing to say the least as the Palestinians are trying to bypass direct negotiations with the Israelis and take the issue of a Palestinian state to the United Nations were the abundance of the anti-semite world community is more than willing to recognize a Palestinian state. They are willing to do this despite there being no agreements on land exchanges, settlements on issues of refugees, the status of Jerusalem, etc. And this is exactly what the Palestinians want as they know that their ridiculous demands to a "right of return" for Palestinian refugees and the issue of Jerusalem are no starters for the Israelis. It is absolutely absurd to expect the Israelis to carve up their state in half and then absorb an ungodly number of enemies who want nothing more than the destruction of the Jewish state. But this exactly what the Palestinians are trying to do via the United Nations path to statehood.Fayyad has been cracking down on corruption and inefficiency as part of a two-year-old campaign to gain recognition for a Palestinians state from the United Nations General Assembly, probably in September. Israel is opposed to the plan, saying a state should be achieved through negotiations, even though they have been deadlocked for months.
Fayyad said the PA’s economic bodies, including the Palestine Monetary Authority and Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), were already up to the standards he had set. He cited the Palestinian CBS for special praise, saying it was close to meeting the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF’s) highest benchmarks.
The other day the United States reaffirmed their opposition to a unilateral Palestinian state via the United Nations and reaffirmed their belief that a Palestinians state will be best created by direct negotiations between the two sides. The reason the Palestinians want to go through the United Nations general assembly is that they believe they can get more going that route than they can by holding direct negotiations with Israel. Israel and the US have both said in the past that any deals for a Palestinian state must take into fact Israel's safety and security. Going through the United Nations general assembly will not guarantee Israel's safety and security, but will in fact make the situation much worse and Israel more vulnerable to attacks after the Palestinian state is formed. For these reasons many politicians in the Israel political scene have been speaking out about the impending declaration of independence set for September of this year. God forbid that this Palestinian state becomes a reality.
I'd like to ask that we all pray for Israel at this time when the Middle East is constantly bubbling over with chaos and riots from one end of the region to the other. Israel needs our prayers and support now more than ever as the enemies of Israel plot devilish schemes and traps for them. May we pray that the Lord provides Israel's leaders with supernatural wisdom, courage, strength, and support to help deliver them from such a disaster a newly formed Palestinian state would create. Let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem and pray for the peace of Israel. Stay tuned!
