Iran's Ahmadinejad to Conquer Jerusalem?

The Christian Broadcasting Network recently released a video, as well as a written news commentary, wherein we're told that the Iranian government, hoping to spur on the widespread civil unrest currently taking place across the Middle East and Northern Africa, has produced and is distributing an Islamic end times video. Within the video it is stated, among other things, that Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is going to "conquer Jerusalem prior to the Mahdi's coming." The Mahdi, for those unfamiliar with the term, refers to Islam's version of the Messiah. Let's look at the bold claim being made by Iran, how its actions are setting the stage for fulfillment of bible prophecy, and what the outcome of Ahmadinejad's 'conquest' of Jerusalem is going to look like should he try such a thing.

Trouble in the making

Recently Fox News reported that Israel is warily eyeing all the uprisings in the Middle East because changes in leadership in the region could lead to renewed hostilities against the Jewish state. As we look at bible prophecy yet to be fulfilled, Israel's worst fears are going to be realized in the future. A key nation Israel has to be concerned about? None other than biblical Persia, modern day Iran.

In Ezekiel 38 we're told that the following nations are going to rise up in allegiance with one another to make war against Israel in the prophetic future:

Magog - Most agree this is a reference to Russia.
Meshech - Most associate this with modern day Turkey, ancient Anatolia, but some say it refers to the Moscow area.
Tubal - Most associate this with modern day Turkey, ancient Anatolia.
Persia - modern Iran
Ethiopia
Libya
Gomer - eastern Europe or Turkey
Togarmah - southeastern Europe or Turkey

Clearly the government of Iran, having made well-received gestures of friendship to Turkey and Russia which I've documented in the past, is looking to make war against Israel. They're currently shopping the idea to neighboring nations by propaganda video no less! That is profound from where I'm sitting, but even more shocking than Iran's hatred of Israel and its desire to conquer Jerusalem is what the Lord has in store for Iran when it tries to do so in the future, whether it happens under the leadership of Ahmadinejad or someone else.

In Ezekiel 39:2-4, we're told that the Lord is going to repel the invading forces of Iran and the alliance of nations it will attack alongside, leaving only 1/6 of the attacking forces alive. So much for Iran conquering Jerusalem!

In Ezekiel 39:4-5, the Lord tells Iran and friends of the terrible fate that will befall them in the prophetic future as a result of their folly:

Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that [is] with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and [to] the beasts of the field to be devoured.

Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken [it], saith the Lord GOD.

Conclusion

It is said that the Iranian-made Islamic end times video states Islam's Messiah figure, the Mahdi or Twelfth Imam, is going to arrive on the world stage after Iran, under the leadership of its president, conquers Jerusalem. The likelihood of this occurring is less than zero according to Almighty God, but it should come as no surprise to those of us watching for fulfillment of bible prophecy to occur that Iran is looking to pick a fight with Israel and encouraging others to aid them which Ezekiel 38 suggests they will be successful in.

As for the arrival of the Mahdi on the world stage? If hope of his arrival is dependent upon Iran conquering Jerusalem militarily as Iran's video suggests, I don't recommend anyone hold their breath waiting for that to take place. Why? Because the Lord says that the vast majority of those who will attack Israel in the future are going to fall upon the mountains of Israel and subsequently become bird food, a grim but honest descriptor of the fate awaiting those who buy into what Iran is currently selling! One would be far better served to keep watch for the return of Jesus Christ given that God's prophetic Word has been and is continuing to be perfectly accurate in predicting the course both humanity and all creation will follow leading up to same.
