Nobody Cares

a man who was imprisoned during Napoleons reign. While sulking in his dungeon one day, he etched on the wall the words "Nobody Cares".

A few weeks later, through a crack in the dungeon floor, a little green shoot sprang forth, reaching toward the tiny ray of sunlight that came from his small prison cell window. The prisoner began giving a portion of his daily water to the little shoot and it began to grow. One morning the man awoke to a beautiful flower. A tear rolling down his face, he crossed out the words, "Nobody Cares" and replaced them with "God Cares."

The story goes on to tell that His devotion to the flower was reported to the Empress Josephine. She was so very moved that she convinced Napoleon to set the man free.

How many times do we feel like "Nobody Cares"? God has planted little shoots of hope in each and every one of our difficult circumstances -- do you know that? Perhaps we're stepping on them, not even noticing they exsist. Perhaps we're pulling the shoots before they spring forth into beautiful flowers.

God want's us to be released from our prisons of despair. Look around! See what God has planted since the beginning of time especially for us today. Be encouraged!

As I read this message I could only think of the little gospel song we sang way back in Sunday School. People may think of it as a child's song,; but dd not Jesus say that unless we become as a little child we shall not see the Kingdom of Heaven. That Kingdom, in part, is in us and around us now. God is active in our lives. We just need to take the time to recognize His hand.

Reading this I started crying. The shingles are on my bad hip (OA) so I have pain both form the shingles and the OA. The pain is bad enough that I am taking two kinds of pain pills three times a day. I suffer from depression (a family problem that goes way back) so this has brought out my depression. But how good to know that God can bring a flower even in a prison. I know it is no where near the same, but when we first moved to this house a couple of years ago, there was a little flower growing out from under a tree limb. I moved the tree limb and that flower is really big, now. Everytime I see that flower I tell her how courageous she is and how proud of her I am. I wonder if God ever feels like that about us. When He sees us going to Church in pain so that our husband won't miss. And maybe your story can be about that God does see our sacrifice and He does care when we give our best even when we are at our limit, too.
