Praise Does the Lord speak to your heart?

This started couple of years ago, when I wanted to know more about my Lord. When I think of the Lord or when I pray to him by thanking him and asking him to forgive my sins. My heart feels comforted, peaceful and love.
I must admit that I never felt this way before this thing occurred. This feeling lasts for a good amount of time and my heart feels different in a good way that I just cant describe it.
I remember when this occurred to me the first time, I wasn't sure if I could trust it but then I read on the book of Matthew and Hebrews that the Lord speaks to our hearts and I was amazed. I am glad that this happens to me on a daily basis!

    Does anyone feel the same?

You bet, bro! That is what a PERSONAL relationship with Jesus Christ is all about. It is personal ... and it IS a relationship... not just a belief system. We talk to him as a friend ... and He talks individually to each one of us. And we know it is Him ... because if we are His we not only know Him (John 10:24), we know His voice (John 10:27). It is still, small, exceedingly sweet, and very powerful in the gentlest of ways. And as a confirmation against any deception what He tells always us fits perfectly with His written Word ... enlivening it, never adding to it.

This is what God says on the matter:

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings." (Jeremiah 17:9-10, KJV)

We cannot go by feelings alone; we have to compare our thoughts, feelings and doings with what the word of god says. The heart can deceive and trick you, but the word of God is sure.

    Absolutely, bro!

It's interesting that the Hebrew word for "deceitful" in Jeremiah 17:9 is the same root word as Jacob's name: akov. His name means "deceiver" or "supplanter". And our heart is as deceitful as he was ... in fact even worse, as verse 9 says: "desperately wicked" ... the word actually meaning "hopelessly sick". This is the unregenerate heart. And though we are given new hearts, our old nature still exists and can choke out our new nature if we do not continually feed the new one with the Word of God and with a prayerful development of our relationship with Christ. As we do, the old man shrivels up more and more and the new man grows stronger and stronger as we are changed more and more into the image of Christ and begin to hear from Him more and more. And oh! what blessed communion ... when we draw closer and closer to Him. As the old hymn says:

    "He walks with me
    And He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own.
    And the joy we share
    As we tarry there
    No other has ever known."

Oh what an awesome God has chosen us and saved us! And we will get to sing His praises throughout eternity.

Yes, I "hear/feel" that exchange when He's leading me or directing my path. It's incredible.

From my understanding, I should not trust the feelings from my heart even if I am praying?
I always though faith comes from the heart especially if we know the facts from the Bible.

I don't think that is what he is meaning, bro. I think he was warning those who believe God has told them to do something or believe He has revealed something new to them that they should make sure it lines up with the Word of God. Which is good advice. I do not think he was saying that God does not speak to us intimately within ... because He clearly does.

    Thank for clarifying, mattfivefour
I just want to clarify in regards to my first post.
When I pray or when I think of the facts such as our Lord along with the father making man in their own image, entering his creation in human flesh, virgin birth, miracles performed, crucifixion, raised from death and appeared to his disciples.
These are the things that make my heart and my mind have faith in him and I do feel some sense of communication, love and comfort. If any thoughts or any ideas going against the The word of God, my heart feels somehow scared and cautious. However fear goes away when I think of the facts above.

    Thanks Matt.

AM: I wasn't saying that God doesn't speak to us, only that we need to check with God's Word on it. There's been many times where my heart has told me that God said something, only to check it in scripture and find out it was MY wish and not HIS voice.

God does speak to us, but we need discernment to be sure that we are hearing his voice. Too often, so many voices compete for our attention: the memories we have, our feelings, what other people have said, etc.

And yes, faith IS of the heart, I would never claim otherwise.

I apologize if I came across wrong; I wasn't trying to slam you.

As I said earlier. My heart feels love, peace and comfort when I pray and ask for forgiveness etc.
One think I didnt know, was the devil can also control our heart...I though he could only control our way of thinking only.

    God bless you!
