Thumbs up God Spoke to Me Yesterday Through a Sermon

Hey, God did something really amazing yesterday!!!! As you know, I’m leaving for college in the fall. For a while I was really excited for it, but during the past week & a half, I began to have some reservations about going, particularly in light of last fall being my last season with the Wheaton football team, which looking back, was one of the greatest experiences of my life. During this time of doubt & stress, I asked for God’s guidance, which was about a week ago. Well, on Sunday, our pastor was beginning a series on Joshua, particularly focusing on the issue of change, with our church moving & all & God really spoke to me through our pastor’s message, particularly when he read Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." That was really a comfort to me & it truly was an act of God that our pastor was giving this sermon when I needed to hear it.

Well, I sent this message to several friends of mine (most of them being Wheaton football players) last night. This evening I got his response from one of the football players, demonstrating how God has timing worked out perfectly:
"Thank you for the message. I am going through a similar time of change and this is comforting. Trust is something I have been praying about. I will pray that you continue to follow God's message to you."
Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. Isaiah 12: 5

Yes God will speak to us when we are where we should be, and doing what we should be doing.
When we wait for God to speak to us in a special way we can miss God speaking to us through our pastor, or friends.
Church can be so much more exciting when we go with the expectation of God speaking to us through the service.
Congrats for being a good servant.

:) I know what you mean by changes! My whole life is nothing but one change after another. Gets to a point where you envy those who stayed the course, but then when you really think about the choices you've made, you realize you can't live life always looking back with regrets. You just got to trust and believe that God is with you every step of the way, and continue putting one step in front of the other.

I'm a senior college student, and honestly, college is basically high school the second time around, just with slightly more advanced classes. :) Oh yeah, and you're paying for it too. LOL

Wow, I wish God would speak to us. We will be homeless in less than three months, I am barely making ends meet, and we're hearing nothing about a job for my husband. Apparently He's speaking to us in sign language?
    Are we there yet?

    Praying for you mikalikat!

I know exactly what you mean by money woes. I'm currently taking summer school, but I have no idea how on earth I'm gonna be able to put gas into the car for the whole month since my money is going towards bills and food. By the time I'm literally done calculating all this, I'm broke by the end of the first week of the month. For the rest of the month, I've got nada. My mother and I are behind on some bills, and we're praying we don't get our services cut off. On top of that, I've been doing nothing but paperwork for the IRS for a summer job, but it's been 3 weeks now, and I still haven't started the actual job! Yesterday, I went in for a fingerprint thingie, and was told it'll be about another week or two before I hear whether or not I actually passed the background check. Mind you, I sorely need the paycheck NOW, and wasn't happy to hear of yet another delay. At this rate, summer will be over before I actually start it. There is a Dollar Store within walking distance of my house, so I'm seriously thinking of seeing about working there part time on the weekends, since I need every dime I can get these days, and plus, it doesn't require gas to get there.

But I know our troubles are merely a drop in the bucket compared to yours. :( I'll keep praying for you and your husband!

Thank you for that verse Caleb, I too am struggling right now. I have been concerned and stressed out over not going to college and not being able to find a job since graduating from high school 2 years ago. The Lord spoke to me, through a dream, and told me that this is where I am meant to be right now.

I was touched by a couple of the responses that I've gotten over the past couple days from friends.

I got this one from my friend Andy (the NFL player) this evening:
Caleb! I am excited to hear that about your life! What an encouragment.... You will love the college life!

One I got yesterday from one of the other football players, who made a keen observation:
That's so cool Caleb...God's Word is such a beautiful treasure to us, especially when we feel discouraged. God Bless brother
