Ok, so they didn't ask some poor scholar to spell U.S.A.....but if this is the state of young people after at least 7 years of "schooling", you have to ask yourself....what are they learning? And why does it cost so much?

One person said..."Canada is a state" (you mean Northern Montana?) Doesn't Jay Leno or David Letterman do this bit on their show? Pathetic.
I doubt if this is a representative sample of the US education system, and realise there are probably more reliable indicators of the real state of things. One could make the same kind of video in any country, but...but just how inaccurate is it, really? I remember coming home from school and talking with Dad about what was "learned" that day, and being amazed at the stuff he had to learn at the same age (even under German occupation in WW2). I also remember the disdain I got from fellow students and teachers for being such a nerdy bookworm...and yet I am conscious and ashamed at my ignorance and shallowness, especially when I read of respectable men of old, Christian scholars, what lofty heights they scaled in learning and wisdom, and what a dolt I am in comparison. How regrettable every wasted minute, in laziness or vain amusements...with the mind and time and opportunities The Lord gave me to learn of Him and be so blessed.
Even playing catchup now, the time wasted is gone, gone forever, and makes the time left, however much, that more precious. Another thing is today's overabundance of information and great hurry to go nowhere particularly important as fast as possible. The houses we are building at the moment are disgsting scrap...I'm ashamed at how ramshackle and temporary they are. Glitzy and flash, but ill-conceived, poorly built and shallow. One decent storm (speaking as a Queenslander used to cyclones) and these shacks are ruins, let alone a couple of centuries of residents and history washing through. The oldest buildings in this town are about 400 years old, which in the grand scheme of things is nothing...but they still get renovated and will likely still stand when the hovels we knock up today are back to dust.
Back to learning...the best books I can find and read are mostly over a hundred years old, and the older the better. The good thing is, the modern pulp is available for cold hard cash, whereas the old classics, precious and nourishing, are mostly to be had free on the internet, if you know what it is called and who wrote it and are prepared to do a little searching. Those poor, robbed children...the treasures of the libraries of the ages are open, but the pied piper of entertainment and peer approval has them, body and soul. And yet, is there anywhere on earth a humble child in simple circumstances with The Bible, and a loving family governed according to God's wisdom and commandments? They are far richer than any child with an iphone and all the rest of the modern garbage...
If The Lord ever blesses me with a wife and children, I pray it is in a remote place where time is much slower, all the better to appreciate each moment with The Lord and His goodness.
Don't worry...I'm sure they're near PhD levels when describing homosexuality, condom variations, how we came from monkeys and the benefits of a neo-fascist state. We need to spend even more money in "education". They don't need to know anything anyway--the state will make the prudent decisions for them.

I asked my daughter how school went today since they had standardized testing all morning.
Her reply - Testing all morning
Singing in Choir
Watching a bunch of lies in science.
I ofcourse wanted to know what she meant.
They watched a movie about the big bang theory, which she will be tested on. She asked if she could take her Bible to school for an open book test. I'm waiting for a call from her physics teacher.
I love my kid!

To be honest,I think the reason they do not know these things is partialy because they do not want to learn. I am a student in highschool and trust me, there are kids all the time refusing to do work. All the time now I see kids falling asleep in class, I have even seen kids tell their teachers they do not care! Many people want to blame the teachers,it is not always them. I belive our educational system needs improvement, but honestly it is not going to do anything. Unless other kids desire to learn and start caring about their future.
As far as my own experiences with the public education system if the United Stated is concerned. From what I read on one web site, religion is the reason our education system is in so much trouble. In this I believe the folks having the discussion; atheists really, were referring to such things as their horror over such topics a intelligent design. I wonder if they realize the major universities were founded in and upon the Christian faith? That all the students had to be well versed in scripture, and had to be fluent in Latin as this was considered vital and was necessary for a proper understanding of scripture. Saw one of the entrance exams and I can't think of anyone who could currently get in. I don't place my own chances very highly.
Religion and or faith in America's public education system? I hope they were kidding? I have to wonder if any of them had actually gone to public school? All I can say from my own experiences is that the reason most people I went to school with weren't learning anything is because by and large, well the couldn't care less about learning anything. I was a social leper in school because I did such things as study and do homework. Oh the humanity. Most of the students I went to school with were too busy worrying about anything other than school and actually learning anything to be bothered with such unimportant nonsense as actually cracking a book.
There are good teachers and bad teachers, and I should know at least a little about this as my dad was a teacher, one of my sisters retired from teaching and my wife is a teacher. And I could tell you all horror stories about some of the things that have gone on. It is sad that teachers do so often get such a bad rap in this regards. This is especially true as they usually have no one who has their backs. My sister was telling me that in one school she taught in that they had a senior teacher who was supposed to be someone they could go to when thay had problems. She went to her and was asking her to fix or help with a particualr problem, and all the senior teacher kept telling her was, "To fix it." This coming from someone who was supposed to have the teachers best interests at heart and was supposed to be there specifically to help them. Everyone involved has at least some part to play in the state of affairs. As far as when my dad actually taught, at least then typically when a student wasn't doing well, the parents were more likely to ask what they or their students needed to, or could do to help fix the situation. My wife has had three students pulled from her class this year alone because she wouldn't lower her expectations for her class in order for their children to do better. She is doing her best in order to help her students succeed later in life.
I would like for once for these people who do the videos showing the ignorance of America's or Europe's or other nations teens, to do them in different areas than the large population centers such as L. A., N.Y. or Chicago. I have yet to see any of these videos taken in the normal small to medium population centers. Not to say there is no problems, but I speak with teens and young adults on a regular basis in the midwest (USA-Central) and I do not see the ignorance that is shown in these videos. Even the one Ray Comfort made that is really popular... where are these freaky looking people? I am not doubting the ignorance of the young adults he interviewed, I am just saying that the ignorance portrayed makes it look like it is all over America, when in all actuality, it is not. In my experience ignorance reigns in areas where kids struggle at home with one parent or no parents trying to raise them and no one else stepping in to take up the slack. It is very easy for a child to become numb to what teachers are trying to teach (i.e. true education) when they have no hope at home. If they do not have any love or reason to pursue a good life at home what makes us think they will do it at school? The problem in my book is not so much wickedly bad teachers, but teachers that have to fight the fires the student brings with him from a bad home life. Think of it this way, Let's say you have decent job, are married and a few children. Then your wife starts having an affair and one of your daughters is pregnant at 14, can you seriously go to work and do a good job? Reverse the situation, the man is having an affair and he comes home late and takes no interest in the children. Then you find out your 14 year old son got another girl pregnant, as a mother will you be able to keep a calm perspective and keep your mind focused? The point is if things are going bad at home, parents and children suffer. Kids raised in these situations find it doubly hard to stay focused on something that seems to them to be baggage, when all they really need is someone to care and to listen. Once they find that they find hope and they begin to see the value in learning and growing.
We have a lot of problems facing our societies and unfortunately, most turn the other way and do not want to take the time to mentor these youth. There are amazing testimonies all over of those who have taken the time. Yes, it is just another issue to deal with, but I am convinced if we could genuinely show love to these young adults we could really for once see change.
God Bless
